Finally! A shame that a perfectly good, still relatively young arena (albeit in a horrible location) is going to be, I'm assuming, demolished prematurely, though.

Nonetheless, congrats Sens fans. I hope this new arena will also help build the fans base.

Coming from the valley this sucks as it was so much easier to see games where it is currently

For anyone who actually lives in Ottawa, first off, sorry and Secondly you probably got home after I did, despite living 20 minutes away while I live 45 minutes away.

With public transportation to get there now it might not be too bad all around for people.

Ehhh, 8th oldest building in the league and will be 30+ years old without any “major” renovations.

I’ve hear the arena might be able to be retrofitted into an indoor amusement park.

good, their market has been massively handicapped by having an arena soo far away.

semantics.

the leafs equivalent would be if they had their arena out in oakville.
lol, no
It’s 27 km (~16 miles) from the CTC to the parliament buildings
(~ 25-26 km to the new approved site from the current one).

So the distance from Air Canada centre up the Don Valley to the 401 is the equivalent.

That is the current equivalent

i was in ottawa for work yesterday and drove right by the site...it's a fine location.

kanata is asinine. who in their right mind thought that was a good idea?
They’d tried for the site they just got, and were turned down back then, by the NCC

When the team was awarded a franchise, the initial investors were real estate developers who were banking on driving the land value around the arena and making profits that way.

so, the tail wagged the dog.

fan satisfaction and easy access was an afterthought

Congrats Sens fans.

Arena you have is very nice, my only NHL live game was there and the Leafs got rocked. That aside, a great memory, but something more central is definitely better.

more like up to the 407 but the idea is the arena is still 27 km away from the downtown area where people can get to easily and enjoy the city.

oakville and markham same old suburb whatever....shit...imagine the leafs playing in ajax!

another point is im guessing 27km of travel takes longer than in ottawa.

Really excited for this. I work and park downtown already. Can just stay late for a game. Are we at all confident that the failed LRT will be able to move enough people East-west? The old line should have no issues getting people south

This has to be a big quality of life for players. Should be easier to attract players right ? I'll definitely visit Ottawa more often because of that.
