It’s not an upset.

It’s a great result for a country that is rising in the hockey community and should not be looked down upon but with these rosters, it’s not an upset. This is not a best on best tournament. It’s a Spengler cup type thing.

However the one thing this does prove is that Canada’s C and D teams cannot steamroll the competition like we used to argue.

Canada’s best players are no where near this tournament and if they were no one on this team would be on that roster. Same cannot be said for the other teams in tournament. There would only be a few players replaced.

That being said it’s great for Germany. But don’t act like it’s david vs Goliath out there

It’s definitely an upset because of the names and reputations of the countries but if you looked at the rosters on paper without the benefit of knowing nationality beforehand it would be hard to call one team a prohibitive favourite over the other.
