After a very close round in the regular poll, McIlrath easily won in the tie-breaker poll. LW Pavel Buchnevich is added to the poll.

Please write who you want added to the poll, and give a reason for it. This makes the discussion here more lively.

WHO IS A PROSPECT: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/whatmakesaprospect

HOW TO RANK PROSPECTS: Based on their value in a hypothetical trade or waiver draft. This takes into consideration a prospect's ceiling, how close he's to making it, his health, work ethic, the whole deal. Imagine there was a prospect waiver draft and you could keep only one prospect. That guy is our #1 prospect. Then imagine we had one more waiver protection. That guy is our #2 prospect.

TOP PROSPECTS

1. LW Chris Kreider
2. C J.T. Miller
3. D Dylan McIlrath

Dylan McIlrath
Defenseman
Born Apr 20 1992 -- Winnipeg, MAN

Talbot has been too good in both Hartford and New York, so I gave him my vote.

Add Allen.

this is where it gets really tough. Went with a mixture of ceiling and probability to reach it on this one. Voted Skjei. Talbot next.

Add Allen.

I thought about who will, most likely, have the bigger impact in the future and for me the answer is Skjei. Add Duclair

I still disagree with talbot even being a prospect. But eh. He would be next I suppose if included

Went with Kristo. I think he refines his game and translates to the NHL by next season. Talbot goes 5th for me. With Lundqvist signed long-term it makes it hard to gauge the real value of Cam. He is playing a very important role right now, and if we didn't have Lundqvist I think he is easily the second best prospect after Kreider. If he is only going to be a back-up or traded then he certainly has less value than potential long-term prospects like the first three, maybe Kristo, and perhaps even Lindberg.

Looks like he'll run away with the 4th spot anyway.

Add Duke.

Where do you slot Skjei into the rankings?

Cam again, we should have a rule about ranking both prospects who went to play-off against each other. Add Allen (Nieves and one of Allen or Duke are going to be out of the top ten).

Where do you slot Skjei into the rankings?

I'm thinking 6-8, not because he isn't a good prospect but I feel like he is a safe pick. People are making McD comparables for his ceiling, which I'm really of no authority to agree or disagree with, but I think that is probably over zealous. A reasonable expectation is probably top-4 pairing and putting him somewhere in the top 8 prospects is not criminal for that expectation.

With how often we have these rankings I tend to put more value on who will make an impact soon or is making one, along with their potential tenure with the Rangers which is why I re-evaluated my decision to slot Talbot over some others. Kristo at 4 is questionable, but I like his chances going forward.

Extremely surprised to see Buchnevich added rather than Allen or Duclair.

Talbot, add Allen.

Went Talbot again. Have been very impressed. I would bet that if the Rangers didn't have Henrik (and had more of a need at G) he would be ranked higher.

Add Allen.

I think Buchnevich's WJC performance is boosting his stock.

The other thing with him is the Russian factor--which is funny, because that works both ways. People will dock a kid for being Russian, make the "lazy Russian" comments, the flight risk comments, and so on. At the same time, people see a young, skilled Russian, and think the sky is the limit. You know? There's nothing more exciting around HF than a talented Russian kid.

Several good choices here.

IMO, others here sooner, some better potential better talent, but Skjei is best combo of that at this slot.
