Yeah but they haven't played in NHL which is the toughest competition league. Makarov did and he was pretty good but there are many Russian players played in the NHL that were and are better than Makarov

Yeah, it was totally their choice to not leave Russia.

Also the times we did see them play against big bad NHL'ers they ran them off the ice

International competition is good and all, but it's nowhere near 82 game NHL season and 2 months of grinding playoffs against the best players in the world.

Fedorov over Malkin is f***ing insane. Fedorov played on the best team of his era and had one ppg season after age 26.

just NHL only (very tough to gauge the Soviet era players and how'd they'd do in the NHL if they came in younger - in the context of their teams Krutov needs more love though)

Mogilny - one of the purest talents and geniuses to ever play hockey
Fedorov
Malkin
Bure
Datsyuk

You honestly believe Alex Ovechkin is not one of the five best Russian NHLers of all time?

Makarov is way better than Kharlamov and the facts are right there to prove it. As for Bure, he doesn't belong anywhere near the top 5. Especially not ahead of Malkin.

I initially voted Makarov as my 5th but was torn with Tretiak and also Malkin, Fetisov. It would be easier to make a top-10

For Bure, note that I vote based on ability for these kind of polls. I don't really look at NHL stats

I won't make a case for anybody not having Bure and Fedorov in their Top-5 but Ovechkin should be 100%. Apparently, 10 voters didn't vote him...

How is Bure better than Malkin?

Bure is probably the fastest skater and most electric player to play the game. Malkin is a legend too but common, he didn't even make the "100 Greatest NHL Players" list.

:sarcasm: (unfortunately, no choice to put these)

I went with a top 10ish player all time in OV

A top 35 player all time in Malkin (injuries being a factor why he's not a bit higher)

Two legends who I've never seen play but only read great things about

Makarov
Kharlamov

Last one went with Kucherov but he's a projection.

Could have had federov/bure/Datsyuk here but I think kucherov ends up a tier ir two above them all when he retires
Has OP mentioned if you are allowed to choose players you havent even seen? That seems to discredit the discussion.

How does Datsyuk have so many votes? He prob shouldn’t be top 5 if looking at just the recent NHL guys guys on here.

Well he was a treat to watch and has totally different personality compared to average russian Joe being unselfish, kind and down to earth. Could be just me dreaming tho.
