GDT: Second Round of the 2025 Playoffs

I saw on the Leafs board that there was supposedly a Mikko Rantinen for Mitch Marner trade on the table and Mitch refused to waive.

Want to take a guess on how Tor fans are handling that tidbit?

Rantanen wasn't great in his short stint with Carolina. I bet that version of Rantanen may have shown up in Toronto and not the Dallas revenge tour version.

Still pretty disgusting that in game one stolarz got elbowed in the back of the head by Bennett and they just let it happen. Might be a different series if that doesn’t happen that way. I know the forwards let the leafs down but that was still a huge factor in the series.

My hot take is that Toronto is the example of what can happen when you draft pure BPA.

Would Toronto be better off with Marner or with the next pick Noah Hanifin. They panicked then and they were too good at that point in 2015, whiffed on Sandin and Lijegren which just happens that late.

In a rebuild I think early on you need to have SOME balance.
real issue is they did not need to sign Tavares which forced them to gut their depth but also spend many seasons trying to get fixes on defense and goaltending at a bargain bin rate. They already had a bad Dcore lacking a true top pairing guy only to tie up even more cap to another forward lmao

I get reveling in the agony of Leafs fans because I know so many...

But talk about true sports hell. Nothing burns like hope. That roster was and has been so talented. Like you might not see that collection of talent for a few decades on your favorite team. They're an easy target because it's a massive fan base with tons of meat balls but there's some objective people who aren't douchebags that are just going through it right now. Big oof.

Eh Woll almost won them the series last season. He was far from a problem

It's wild that you open with Q and leave the best player of that Era to etc.
Amazing, honestly. Lol. Keith, Kane, Toews, Hossa, Seabrook, Sharp, Crawford....all bigger factors in those cup wins than Q ever was.

You know why you almost never see a coach win a cup with multiple teams? Because most of the time it requires multiple hall of famers. Players win cups. Coaches either come along for the ride, or hinder those efforts. NHL coaching is so overrated.

I did not like his rebound control. He didn’t look on his game. They should have had the option to play either but a dirty elbow to the back of a goalies head ended that option. I would prefer stolarz.

It wouldn't have made any difference.
