I have to disagree. Aho has 96 points and +26 in 106 career playoff games, is solid defensively and very consistent (prior to this year). This year he is barely noticeable and very underwhelming, yes, but that is such a recency biased take.

"Easily" PPG? It's never easy to be PPG in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Many elite players don't reach that mark in their career playoff stats no matter the TOI. For example, Aho has the exact same career playoff PPG pace Ovechkin has: 0,91. Brayden Point also has 0,91, and Jonathan Toews has 0,87. Points are not everything, and these are just a few examples, but still. If it's just due to the many games Carolina has played, why are none of the other long time Canes close to Aho in this stat?
If we're nitpicking Aho had 88 points in 103 career playoff games prior to this season. Should also be an asterisk on this historical achievement considering the Canes were eliminated in the first round in the 2020 playoffs with Aho scoring only four points.

There’s no asterisk. Official NHL stats include the preliminary round as a playoff round.

“First Round” is just a title that they used for the conference quarterfinals that year. It was not literally the first round.

Aho has never been a strong playoff performer. With his TOI average he should easily be PPG but he's barely noticeable this year. The best thing about Aho is he doesnt make costly mistakes. He doesnt regularly give the puck away, he doesn't let men get behind him on breaks and he eats critical PK minutes. He's a good passer and he's playing fine but he's leading this stat mainly because the number of games Carolina has played in their playoff runs.
What? He has performed up to par pretty much every year aside from this one and has been important for Finland too.

Even in his current state, he is PPG in a very close finals series

Players with 8+ consecutives playoffs with 10+ points
  1. Bernie Geoffrion (1953 to 1960) - 8 seasons
  2. Wayne Gretzky (1981 to 1991) - 11 seasons
  3. Mark Messier (1983 to 1997) - 14 seasons (excluding 1993 - Rangers missed the playoffs)
  4. Brad Marchand (2018 - 2025) - 8 seasons (debatable if active - Panthers missed the playoffs in 2026)
  5. Sebastian Aho (2019 - 2026) - 8 seasons (active)
Aho is the only player whose streak started from his first playoff appearance.

Next year it's going to be streak against streak as Aho goes up against Marchand in the playoffs to see who can join Gretzky and Messier with 9 seasons or more.

I am tired of waiting for @Mulletman to get home from the discotheque and post about this historic accomplishment. Sebastian "Seabass" Aho, the pride and joy of somewhere in Finland, has now had eight consecutive playoffs with more than 10 points. This is more noteworthy than it seems, as very few other late greats have had eight straight. Aho, of course, broke the record of beginning one's career with consecutive double digit points playoff runs from the Quebecois mythological Paul Bunyan figure known to us as Jean Beliveau. One would think it was Wayne Gretzky who Aho stole this record from, but Gretzky had a disgusting legacy destroying 3 point performance in the 1980 playoffs to kick of his career which basically tarnishes the rest of it. For eight straight double digit playoff runs including not from the start of their career, Mark Messier has the lead with 14 straight and 10 straight if you are counting more than 10 points like Aho always achieves. However, Mark Messier missed the playoffs once in that stretch so the true numbers are actually 10 or 6 straight. There is Wayne Gretzky as usual who had 11 or 9 straight. So basically, Aho only needs one more playoff run of more than 10 points next year to tie Wayne Gretzky and two to completely take this record from him. Brad Marchand of all people has 8 straight double digit playoff runs as well but he has two in that 8 at exactly 10 points so his consecutive more than 10 point playoff numbers are actually a mediocre 5.

Players like Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon, Evgeni Malkin, Nikita Kucherov, and Alex Ovechkin barely reach or fail to reach double digit playoff runs eight non consecutive times which just shows how special this Aho streak is.

Aho has obviously sucked ass this entire playoffs but his play will be forgotten and the stats and records will remain for him to be judged more favorably in the future. His only competition was his countryman Mikko Rantanen who also had 7 straight going into this playoffs, but first of all had exactly 10 points one playoff run and second of all broke even the double digit streak this year. This settles the age old Aho vs. Rantanen debate forever, and I'm sure Mikko Rantanen weeps with regret for not sticking with Carolina now.
I think this is an awesome thread....to build on what I posted here
