This would be post-lottery. Obviously if we're lucky enough to win the 1st or 2nd overall pick, we likely wouldn't trade it. So 6th or 7th overall is what's on the table.

The biggest need would be LD, not sure who's available.

Preferably on the right side of 30 years old.

note: if the player you're about to offer is not worth a top-10 pick, don't bother

I am not if our 2025 1st round pick is on the table, but if it was, I expect it to be for an elite offensive forward. I suspect that is the big upgrade our management is looking for this off-season. Anyone from the Kraken prospect pool outside of Catton is likely to be on the table. As would be either or both of the 2 TBL 1st round picks we have through 2026 and 2027. Same is true for any roster player with the exception of Beniers, Wright, Kokko and Montour.

The expectation would be to return either a pending RFA or a signed FA, anywhere from 24-28 years of age and with 4-5 years left on the roster.

What would need to be added for the following?

Seattle gets:
Mason Lohrei
5th pick

Boston gets:
Shane Wright
6th pick

This assumes:
-- Bruins think Wright could become a top 6 center.
-- Seattle thinks Lohrei's defensive play will improve with time while he QBs PP1.
-- Seattle is worried Boston will pick "their guy" before they can.

Flame away.

Would you definitely be targeting LHD? Because if Dobson is available I think that’s actually a pretty close 1 for 1.
When the Sharks were rumored to be open to trading 1st ovr, there were trades that were worth way more than just Dobson, but personally I wouldn’t trade Dobson straight up for, say 9-11 ovr.
I do think that’s a decent medium with maybe small adds either way. It probably happens during the draft tho to make sure the Isles guy is available. What’re we thinking?

That's definitely an option.
At some point they are going to have to start drafting stud D. They seem to have avoided doing that for their entire existence. Their defense at the NHL level is on the older side (Ryker excepted) and they really have no D in their prospect pool of any note. That's going to be a problem for them sooner than later unless they just think they can get their D corp through free agency or trade. But that's an expensive approach.

Yeah, I have zero complaints about Catton as a prospect, but I would've taken Buium or Dickinson.

Seattle doesn't need LD so badly, there are other ways to get them. They still have Dunn for the moment and can fill out LD without spending that pick.

A difference maker on defense, whether LD or RD, would be something they'd trade a lot for. But they have to be a real top pair guy. So the Noah Dobson offer is one move that would make sense and you could imagine this aggressive ownership group insisting on it.

Personally I like Jackson Smith a lot, and that's right around where I would draft him.

Value might not be exact :

Owen Power

for

Adam Larsson
6th / 7th overall
2nd round pick

... and then Seattle look at moving Dunn for a roughly equal D of the same-ish age that is more defense-first and PK-oriented. Possibly right-handed.

( Dunn replacement ) - Power
Oleksiak - Montour
Evans - 3rd pair RHD

Dahlin - Larsson
Samuelsson - Byram
Johnson - ( Clifton / Docker )

I don’t see how this really helps Seattles want to be competitive if that’s where they’re trying to shoot towards, and why would they want to replace Dunn and Larsson. They’ve been a pretty good pair for them.

They also just signed Montour to a pretty sizable contract, can’t see them pulling the plug by dumping their top pair, a top 10 pick and a 2nd to try and develop Power on the fly into a top pair defenseman.

What would probably make more sense for them would be to make the pick, trade for a guy like a Leddy (stable older 2nd pair partner for Montour) and with the pick take Smith or try to get a high end winger out of the class. I could be wrong, but looking at their roster I don’t think their defense needs a change fundamentally I think they need some punch on the wing and some of those vets to be pushed down a line.

A difference maker is what I am aiming for, and I haven't seen anything in this thread that would make me want to trade this year's 1st.

Basically, my thinking is that Dunn is not suited to matching up against other teams' top lines. So if we had someone who could play that role, we could move Dunn down to the 2nd pairing while still running the PP.

_______ - Montour
Dunn - Larsson
Evans - _______
