Lebrun has tweeted that Seattle is willing to retain 50% in order to facilitate a Brandon Tanev trade.

I feel like there is good chance that he ends up in Toronto, his brother is already there it just feels like he's going to end up there at some point either now or free agency.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a package deal with Yanni Gourde because Lebrun said on a recent episode of insider trading that the Leafs were a team to watch for Yanni Gourde.

What do you think Tanev gets at 50%

Tampa is gonna have a lot of competition on this one I'd imagine.
Yeah for sure, but try to get in there early and maybe steal him from everyone else.

Ideally I'd want them both.

If the Leafs could land both that's a major boost to their bottom 6 especially with Jarnkrok back.
Issue with Tampa is the cap space. Gourde at 50% would cost more on the cap and in assets. Tanev is cheaper and would pair well with Paul on the third line or Glendenning on the fourth. Gourde is better overall, but taking asset cost and cap hit into account, i would rather have Tanev. It also allows a little more flexibility for Tampa to get a Top 9 RW also.

The problem for JBB is he probably can't act quickly. He's purposely waiting as long as possible to accrue cap space, no?

Sens were apparently poking around on him this summer and won't have the assets or space to add a top 6 player.

I could see a 3rd or 4th + JBD or a comparable asset

I'd do a 3rd + dewar + timmins from the Leafs for tanev at 50% retained. The 3rd is a 3rd and both dewar and timmins are useful depth players with relatively small cap hits.

The Leafs need Timons as depth on the right side. You don’t trade one of your only rh dmen when you don’t have any in the wings waiting to move up. Especially because he can move the puck which is something the Leafs still need. If you can replace that then sure, but until then, you don’t move him.

No they don't, they need to upgrade on Timmins

While the concept of bringing him into Toronto sounds all peachy and rosy... even at 50% the Leafs do not have a ton of flexibility to make moves cap-wise, and it would seem foolish to waste that limited cap space on a guy like Brandon Tanev.

Sure, if you find a 3rd party to take another 25% of the hit, it might make sense, as now a Dewar <-> Tanev swap actually saves the Leafs money... but of course you're going to burn a decent chunk of asset to make that happen.

Like ringing the dinner bell in Toronto.

Correct - we have bigger needs and fish to fry first.
