the next day, idk man this game just kinda made me sad, even at 4-1 we looked like we could get back into it, they got lucky bounces and everyone was playing kinda bad on both sides so it wasn't a lost cause just yet, and then everyone just gave up, including monty...

i'm not on the *blame marty for everything* train but he seems to struggle with that aspect of coaching, the good cop will only take you so far I guess, it's time to yell and bag skate and go full torts

We are actually 1st in the NHL for blocked shots. There was only 23 shots yesterday are you saying the team defense has to allow less than 20 shots? I still maintain that any okayish performance from a goalie yesterday result in 5 goals max. Any good performance 4 goals max.
twice they shot more than their opponents in 10 games.

Oof, looking at the post-game quotes.
:eek3:

Suzuki "I don't think it's a pattern [f we don't start the game ready].". It has happened for 90% of the games in the last 3 seasons. It is 100% a pattern and it's your job to fire up your teammates before the game. Suzuki might keep the boys together like a big happy family, but he's not team captain material.

Matheson/Savard took a week, after Guhle mentioned it in the media, to do a D corp talk. It should have happened the night Guhle mentioned it.

This team vet leadership is not proactive at all. So much for culture.

The journalist(s) asking coach/players what they think the fans feel right now. I think the players have much pressing issues than getting cupabilized by bringing up the fans who have to endure this shitshow...and I'm saying that as a fans who has to endure this shitshow.
I am just happy that Marty isn't listening to his critics.

The age of the Dmen the year Theodore won the Hart and Vezina...

Patrice Brisebois (30)
Craig Rivet (26)
Andrei Markov (22)
Stephane Quintal (32)
Karl Dykhuis (29)
Stephane Robidas (24)
Sheldon Souray (25)
Patrick Traverse (27)
Francis Bouillon (25)

Goaltending hasn't been great, no one can deny that, but there are factors that we all knew about heading into this year, including how so inexperienced the D corps was/is, i'm not quite sure why there's such shock.

It will stabilize eventually, but it's going to take time.
That is a MUCH better d corps than what Habs have now. Not even close. Mind you it doesn't excuse 8 goals on 19 shots.

I was on a date. The game was on in the background. I glanced up a few seconds in and... what??... 0-1 already?? A minute later a second glance... 0-2?? At that point I stopped looking at the TV altogether, which scored me more points than the Habs.

How much of this debacle was on Montembeault and how much on the rest of the team??

The Rebuild is real! The pain and frustration is immense.
I fugure that management probably has a plan in place to address issues after the 10 game mark, we'll here we are...10 games done
I was hoping for 12 points after 10 games...............we got 9
There has been a couple of good things, Slaf, Suzuki and Cole scoring like a mad man........the rest is not very good at all. The 2nd line is attrocious and their plus minus tells a brutal story.

The D is young, but a couple of guys is their 3rd year, and s couple of vets, and a couple of kids.....gotta give Hutson props on his offensive game....

Here we are..................should be a little better if we are gonna be in the mix.
Really disappointed in our coach at this point, and have to say he needs an Associate coach on the bench in a hurry.
He has soem nice quotes and some nice philosophy, and he has helped a couple of guys with their confidence, but the X and O portion of his coaching, is underwhelming....

Ah let's discuss the 2nd line...Armia is a solid bottom line player but it is plain to see that he doesn't not have the skills to play top 6 minutes, neither does Newhook. Roy could help.

I didn't see the start of the game, but Montembeault said he couldn't track the puck well because of traffic in front of him and Suzuki complained about them not being ready at puck drop...

So same old, same old:
- the Habs goalies are easy to screen because the Ds aren't doing their cleaning job and that's not a "too green thing", I have never seen Matheson clear the front of the net.
- the Habs were not ready at puck drop, which means low effort on both side of the ice.
- and some of the vets decided the game was out of reach at some point...

Oh and MSL started to realize he has two actual centers on his team (well 3 with Kapanen but somehow he doesn't want to put him there).

Yesterday I have firmly placed Newhook in Mike Matheson bucket. He was something bad. I mean I always thought we got fleeced in that trade but man... this season he has truly shown his colors.

That could happen...............Newhook, Armia and Dach have been a disaster.
Could Roy be recalled? There was something going on in Lavaal and the kid missed a autograph meet and greet and heard the team was not happy with him. So, who knows.......they could promote Evans too, to the second line, the guy has been very good.

Things need to change, for sure.................getting Guhlie and Barron back will help on the back end also.

He was good at the end of last season, but looks like it might have been a mirage thanks to Gallagher/Roy.

Haha... that's a spin of positivity! So you're saying there is really something to look forward to in say... December? :D
If you mean looking at the coming draft for the potential top 3...yes.

Otherwise no, because the Habs have started strong in October and collapsed in January for more than a decade now.

100 percent. That's the issue with Monty.....his puck tracking skills are just not great.

I get that the defense sucks, but the goalies have sucked too besides the first 2 games of the season.

Yup, we probably should have won, 4-2.

Like I said in my post, it wasn't really a blowout type game until Montembeault let in that gawd awful 5th goal. That killed the Canadiens spirit, and that was it.

After that, the team was all over the place defensively, pushing for offense and not competing well.

Montembeault is yo-yo ING right now. He's had 3 really good games & 3 really bad games.

Seattle isn't that good, and didn't play that well. Every chance they had went in. Daccord was excellent for them.

Our D needs to be better. With how young they are, we might see significant improvement through the year as they gain experience and learn. But without a step up, I think we're finishing bottom 10. There's not a lot of stability in our D zone play and it is just painful to watch.

At this point I think it's safe to say that Alex Newhook is a 3rd liner. Habs have serious issues on the 2nd line.
We really do have big issues with a 2nd line. We were relying on Dach coming back playing capably at center, and Laine coming in to provide some skill and a serious scoring threat on the 2nd line. Newhook or Roy could potentially have complemented them well as the other winger.

None of those things have panned out the way we expected.

I stopped watching after 2-0 last night but did the put Slaf back on the 1st line? I think Slaf can drive a line on his own and should stay on the 2nd line while Dach plays wing with Suzuki

IIRC slaf was back on the first line before the first intermission

I tuned in and out depending on how much my stomach could take the game, but it did look like they put Slaf back with Suzuki and Caufield at some point, and Dach was centering a new line too at one point. Looks like there was a bit of a blender going on.
