No this doesn’t matter. Eberle would take Zucker’s cap space and Rust’s roster position. Rust’s cap space is now free. Zucker’s roster spot would be taken by Zohorna who makes 750K. So, in your formulation the savings is new Rust cap hit - 750K.

Or you could just dump Zucker elsewhere, keep Rust, have just as much money free -500k, and not have spent your 1st into the bargain.

Once you are willing to spend Eberle money on a RW there's not a lot of reason not to keep Rust instead, and even if you don't you might as well swing at the other UFA options first.

This is a Jim Rutherford trade. Throw away more assets to fix a mistake.

I can’t see Eberle being worth that. Zucker doesn’t have negative value.
