Seems an odd trade for Detroit. 5'9" D-man and a scoring winger. Would think the Wings would need a center to replace Copp and a veteran D to upgrade on Holl.

I am unsure of Detroit needs but Nelson is 5'10 and weighs more than the 6'4" D-man that Wallinder is. I have no idea about the trade value here but Nelson certainly does not play like a 5'10" D-man, is a year and a half younger than Wallinder and has more points in his first pro season than what Wallinder does.

But what I can say is that the Kraken need a real reason to move either McCann or Nelson. None of the pieces coming to Seattle appeal to me. The 2025 1st appears to be the best piece here and this is not the draft with best depth and we are looking for more high-end prospects than draft picks at this point. McCann is certainly the kind of player who could get a really good prospect in return.

Yeah. I can't speak to Wallinder, other than I remember him being a bit of a "project" in the sense that he has a lot of potential but hasn't quite realized it. So that Nelson is more "developed" than Wallinder isn't a shock. Berggren seems a capable middle 6 winger and Veleno has shown good speed and size for a bottom 6 forward. It's a lot of bits and bobs to try and get 1 or 2 players that I'm not sure why Detroit would even want, in their current position. Detroit probably needs a 2/3 C replacement for Copp and a couple of d-men to replace Holl/Gustaffson.

I would think Seattle would be better off holding on to what they have with McCann being very reasonable priced for 2 more years and Nelson still on an ELC. I don't think this is the right kind of trade between these two teams. All of the centers that the Kraken have are ones they want to keep (Wright/Stephenson/Beniers) so I'm not sure what OP was thinking.

On the surface some would hate it because Wallinder is a really good prospect and you don’t trade 6’4” mobile Dmen at his age, and where he’s at development wise, unless you’re getting a good Top 4 Dmen in return. The value isn’t crazy or anything though.. As long as you value McCann high and I do. He’d be a great fit.

I’d take Nelson out though, as he does nothing for Detroit, and I’d ask that Ryan Winterton be in the deal instead. I don’t think Seattle argues about that much, even though with McCann leaving it opens up a spot Winterton could take on the roster, but they’re getting Veleno/Berggren who’d still be blocking him this season.

Detroit is interested in Oleksiak and would likely have interest in Tanev as well. I do know Detroit really liked Winterton draft year, and he’d give them a 6’2” C, who might be a better winger in the NHL. He’s an NHL ready prospect who could push Detroit to say ok to including Wallinder in the deal.

Even that deal might be a little high for McCann, but he’d help them over the next couple of years a lot. If I’m Detroit I might shop that package around the league and see what else I might be able to get, but if we woke up tomorrow to see McCann and Winterton for the 2025 1st, Wallinder, Berggren and Veleno, think a lot of people would like it. Especially once they knew who Winterton was, and understand how well Tuomisto and Buium have developed. Lessening the loss of Wallinder.

Between Dunn and Evans, the Kraken aren’t going to place a lot of value on acquiring a LHD prospect. They have much more pressing needs at other positions. Given that Wallinder is primary value piece in OPs offer (I don’t consider the #20 pick in a generally weak draft a huge ‘get’) it’s an easy pass from Seattle
