Here is now where my mind is at. Obviously we have several vets on this team on expiring deals and all are part of this locker room. Some will obviously leave at the trade deadline. Others will leave in the offseason. Others may return.

Obviously we are an organization in transition but I hope between those that stay and those that leave we replace them with equal character to keep this locker room going. It is clearly much more positive than we've seen in a few years.

I certainly hope that DW really looks at locker room fit for anyone we bring in at this point.

I can't judge by play right now, but Mateychuk and Provorov seem to have great chemistry and Provorov is playing well on the right side. When I break it down with the first defensive pair - Werenski, Fabbro - we have a quality top 4 that not only has a great first line, is mobile, but can defend. Especially when coached by an experienced systems coach who is one of the best in the NHL and have a top 5 NHL defenseman.

We'll see how the offense, despite the offensive defense, can't sustain that kind of pace. Good new is Fantilli is improving his play.

Marchenko is tied for the second best +/- in the NHL. That’s not too bad playing for a bottom 5 team in goals against

Marchenko is actually #1 in 5v5 +/-.

And tied for #1 in ES +/-, tied with Draisaitl and Eichel.

Those are the real stats as far as I'm concerned. Traditional +/- is corrupted by empty netters and shorthanded goals, it's better to look at ES or 5v5 stats without the broken parts added in.

I don't see how a shorthanded goal corrupts this stat. If you score a shortie, that plus is earned. The minus for giving up a shortie also.

What corrupts it, to me, is when guys make a play that leads to a goal, but went for a line change before the goal is scored and miss out on the plus, and the guy that didn't do anything gets it because he was on the ice when the goal happened, or when it works the other way for a minus.

All these things, though, aren't common enough events to really have a bearing on the stat.

This is a huge part of the current team's success and actually is why I no longer want EP nor JT Miller. Why mess with such an exceptionally good room? The team should absolutely make a big swing, but only for someone who is not currently involved in the biggest locker room standoff in the NHL right now.

I get it but I am 100% sure that EP is not the locker room problem in Vancouver. No chance.

Why is that? From what I understand his teammates want more commitment from him because they think he has another gear if he applied himself more. That is at least a bit problematic.

I think the situation they have there is weighing down on EP big time. Without this situation and JT Miller, Pettersson would thrive once again. Just my thoughts on the situation.

What exactly is this situation they have? I’m a bit out of the loop.

Well they are denying the whole problem, that has to be said, but there have been rumours that EP and JT Miller dont get along too well. Bruce Boudreau even hinted that there were some problems already when he was the coach there.

There is history with JT Miller and some locker room drifts since he has been traded away before too. This season JT Miller took that mental health break and who knows if that is related to this. EPs production is down etc. I think it is pretty obvious that they cant just continue with status quo.
