Ha I didn’t know what he was doing either live. But on replay, he just overpursued and then couldn’t get back to it. I initially thought he wasn’t getting it intentionally got done reason

A ball thrown backwards is called a lateral. Laterals are live balls, always. So given that the RB didn't catch it, it's fair game for anyone.

QB threw it from the 4 backwards, where the NE RB touched it at the 3. That is considered a fumble/lateral
