Sean Monahan's Insane Resurgence After Being Given Away As a Capdump

Monahan was given away with a 1st round pick as a cap dump to the Habs to make room for an aging Nazem Kadri and his massive FA contract. What a disastrous trade that was for Calgary who have since seen an exodus of players as the team has been stuck in limbo; not terrible enough to bottom out, but not nearly good enough to do damage in the playoffs. The Habs of course got another 1st for Monahan last year, so they actually got two firsts for Money. Calgary would have been better off letting Money rehab his problems instead of shelling out huge cash for an aging player and shipping out first round picks in the process.

As for Monahan, he's done nothing since his Calgary days but prove the haters wrong and is now sitting at PPG after 41 games in Columbus.

It was a stupid move from the get go. A healthy Monahan is a great player and always has been.

It didn't help that he was playing through injuries while Sutter had him cemented alongside plugs in the a bottom six role either.

Absolutely brain dead decision by Treliving whom already had one foot out of the door at the time.

Calgary was rightfully frustrated with Monahan's inability to stay healthy, he'd shown year after year that he was not capable of staying healthy and they needed to clear the cap space. Obviously nobody was taking that contract, with that injury history without a draft pick attached to it.
It can't be helped that almost immediately he put the injuries behind him and once again started playing at the level he's capable of.

It's too bad we couldn't have kept him in Montreal, such a good center. With the addition of Laine, Hutson and Heineman along with Monahan we would have been a very strong team this year and he meant so much to the young players on the team. He was pure class and I wish him all the best.

We liked Monny in Winnipeg (34gp, 24p) but he wasn’t the perfect answer at 2C for us. I know Chevy made him an offer to stay, but I’m glad we didn’t give him what Columbus did; age and injuries will be an issue there. Happy for him nonetheless.

This, also had a flat cap from covid. I am happy for Monahan that hes gotten healthy and bounced back to the player he once was. But that was the hope and not the expectation.
