Weird flex but ok

Everyone should feel the same way, riding a bike when you’re drunk should not be ‘illegal’. You don’t need a license to ride a bike

I’d much rather someone who’s drunk takes their bike home instead of a car.

If you make drunk driving a bicycle the same as driving a car, then people who just think “f*** it, guess I’ll just drive”

Marco Muzzo probably watching this case unfold in some sprawling Richmond Hill estate, thankful he wasn't born in New Jersey. :shakehead

Pretty sure Marco should be thankful of the family he was born into more than anything else. He would have gotten a light sentence regardless of province/state.

And if the defence doesn't exhaust all possible avenues then the defendant can appeal on the basis of ineffective counsel. Is this what you want? This guy to have a clear path to appeal after the trial?
Plus all this legal work costs taxpayers a lot of money so if this gets done right the first time, it costs much less. All it takes is one scummy, lazy detective to coerce person or two into confessions and get caught a decade later and then suddenly every case they've ever touched is open game for appeal on a mistrial. I see crap like that all the time at work. I'm thinking this should be a open and shut case evidence-wise but the police and the DA have to make sure they do their jobs right or it's ultimately THEIR fault the drunk guy walks.

Still angers me whenever I think about the hospital in York Region proudly leaving that family name plastered right on the side. Money really does talk. :shakehead

People dont get to decide that laws are stupid and they dont have to follow them. Thats not how a democratic society works.

It may be to minimize his prison term.

Also, if the BAC results turn out to be wrong on the brothers, they may be able to say their clients must also be wrong.

People need to take the emotion out of it. Playing devil's advocate the defendant could argue that it was irresponsible for the victims to be riding bicycles, sober or allegedly under the influence. They have more than an abundance of means to pay for a taxi, uber, limo, etc.

I'm not advocating for anyone's position but in terms of what can be plausibly argued in an American court of law, especially as part of say a plea bargain, I could easily imagine something like this happening.

Anyone familiar with the OJ case?

This is the first post I saw when I went to the last page. I think I'll go back to not reading the thread.

Ehhhhh. idk about that, man... If someone is drunk riding a bicycle they become a traffic hazard, especially if they're riding near or on a roadway. In my state bicycles are legally supposed to share the road with cars unless there are bike paths or certain areas of sidewalks. We have many designated bike lanes on the road in the city.

A drunk cyclist could very easily cause an accident, or even death. Drivers shouldn't be put at risk to wreck and/or potentially end someone else's life because they drunkenly swerved into traffic.

This guy sucks and should be convicted, but there are far worse scumbags out there retaining the services of attorneys every single day.
And we should be thanking these lawyers. Their work helps reduce the amount of corruption and laziness in the system. They force police and prosecutors to be more diligent. Without these defense lawyers pushing back, our prisons would be filled with far more wrongly prosecuted people.

Except they didnt.

Yes they did, and society siding fall apart and no one cared. They were selling pot in stores and online for a decade before legalization.

They’re doing it with mushrooms, too. Just renting store spaces and selling openly. As they should.

Society isn’t falling apart, despite those insane warnings from the 80’s many of us grew up with. And eventually, they’ll win on mushrooms too.

Because riding your bike while drunk is an unjust law, just like throwing someone in jail with double digits of time for pot or mushrooms is unjust.

You can make this argument about drinking in general. Guess we just make it illegal. Oh wait, tried that and everyone ignored it lol

That’s my point
