Flyers fans, at the deadline and a rebuild starts... what is the asking price to ship Couturier to Buffalo? We have extra 1st rounders this year and 2nd next year plus a healthy prospect cupboard. I know he just resigned but he also doesn't have any trade protection.

Couturier has enough talent to sabotage a full on tankjob if that becomes the plan. After taking a discount to re sign and stay in Philly it would take a whole lot to get him out of there

Buffalo does an abbreviated rebuild, gains a few top picks, then trades for a star 2 way center... Where have I heard this before?

The Sabres trade for 24 year old O'Reilly was a steal. This proposed trade for 29 year old Couturier, on a contract taking him to 37, wouldn't make as much sense for the Sabres at this stage.

love the player. Love what he'd bring to a rebuilding team so I guess that makes sense. Don't see any other optic to this that makes sense though...

Why wouldn't a stabilizing, Selke level center that could insulate their young prospects not makes sense for the Sabres?

because he’s older and we’re going to ask for a lot of that young talent in return.

Couturier is an *excellent* player. He will get an excellent return. Maybe even more than Eichel.

(Note: I’m not saying he’s better than Eichel. I’m saying they aren’t far apart and he’s cheaper)

I actually think it makes a lot of sense to trade couturier. The flyers are very clearly headed into a rebuild. Couts’ best years may be behind him and you can’t rely on him being a 1C at 34 for sure. He no longer fits the core imo.

What do you think the offer would be? It would have to start with this years first unprotected.

As good as Couturier is, that is an automatic non-starter for me.

Sabres would be nuts to end the tank the season of the Bedard/Michkov draft.

Stick it out one more year then do a trade like this.

I get that you guys are sick of tanking and don't want to intentionally lose anymore, which is respectable, but it's the wrong year to want to shortcut the rebuild.

I'm going to say this as politely as possible. If the Sabres win the #1 pick from a low probability spot, cool, I'll take the bonus elite talent. Otherwise, and I cannot stress this strongly enough, f*** that. And yikes if you think anyone in Buffalo is trying to lose (or has been at any point post-2o15 draft).

Yeah I'm aware of your guys' feelings on it and I get it. It's been a long time of losing and your management hasn't earned the trust that they can turn anything around.

Maybe tank is the wrong word since you were forced into it by the players themselves, but you just traded your best on ice players for wads of futures. It's strategically the wrong timing to trade significant futures to shortcut the rebuild.

I don't disagree. I just don't like the characterization of where Buffalo is right now as "tanking."
