OT: Sean Avery on Spittin Chiclets

I'd take a few guys who play with his energy on this team all day every day

It's funny how some of Sean's comments in this interview are eerily similar to his arch-nemesis Tortorella's recent remarks on how the game is going soft. Players don't hate on each other very much anymore. In his book Sean talks about his on ice antics as a tool to get the fans at MSG behind the team and the team feeding off the energy. We really don't see those kinds of moments anymore.

This happened in his first stint. His 2nd stint, as well as his stint in Dallas, were complete embarrassments. He could've been a really good player, but wound up flushing his career down the toilet because being a wise ass became paramount to anything else.

The affect he had on the team after he was traded was amazing. Never seen anything like that since Messier (obviously a different kind of impact).

What was so frustrating about Sean was he was his own worst enemy. He was underrated in terms of skill, IMO. Just couldn't get out of his own way.

If you came away from that thinking Avery was in any way referencing on ice performance when he talked about coaches being afraid he'd get too much control then you completely misunderstood everything he was saying. It had nothing to do with how many goals he was scoring.

I didn't.

I seem to remember his NHL career ending at 30-31 and IMO he wouldn't have had very many years left at that point (maybe two at the most and he wasn't likely going to get another big contract)......and he's working on a new career. I don't worry about him anyway--he made a lot of money and is probably still doing alright or at least better than I am and his Mrs. has her career too.

I'm not sure if this has ever been posted before but here's Sean Avery taking it to the streets lol

I see him around town often and he is really nice and I’ve talked Brodeur with him.

The insta stuff makes me laugh but everyone’s right who said he just never grew up. The thing about the whole atmosphere of MSG when he left and the team in general, that was weird, was AWESOME when he came back (and he was offsides for 2/3 of every single shift he ever had in NY).

Don’t have the time really, but what was the Sakic story? I love to hear that one !
