Seabrook vs Chelios (Retiring the #7)

Well I would retire the number of the captain of my team who happened to win 2 Norris trophies, got selected first team all-star three times and 2nd team all star 2 times, all while playing for my team. Also bringing them to SC final with an average roster...If it were my team, you know. But what do I know though.

Chelios pissed all over the Hawks fans since he left. Parading the Red wings Cup on the Green Bay Sidelines during a Bear's Game. Wore the Winged Wheel jersey during the Hawks 75th anniversary photo.

He was booed mercilessly at his Heritage night. Screw him , his #7 should never be put in the rafters.

Seabrook deserves it, he has been the rock since 08 and been clutch in big games.

BTW, no one should go up before Larmer.

Chelios and it's not close. Yes, Seabrook had more team success, but Chelios was a far superior player. It's like asking (if they wore the same number) whether Rick MacLeish was more deserving to get his number retired over Claude Giroux.

Not really, MacLeish and Giroux are a lot closer than Seabrook and Chelios. Giroux has yet to put up single season numbers that match MacLeish's best seasons. And MacLeish did it centering the second line.

Edit: and to answer the OP- definitely Chelios.

The Hawks, via $Bill, are also guilty.

Neither is number retirement worthy.
My take on it. Considering Larmer's 28 is not in the rafters and whether deserved or not Cheli's #7 left a very bitter taste in many of the fans' mouths, I doubt Cheli gets the honor. I think a lot of fans would see it as if a WWW banner or a Pullford banner was hoisted.

Seabs is good, but I don't think he's HHoF material and won't have #7 retired. Neither will Sharp/Amonte as suggested. The next numbers will likley be 2, 19, and 88--and even then there's not a guarentee.

Chelios was a far better player than Seabrook will ever be. That said - most Hawk fans don't give a crap about Chelios anymore, and probably never will. He can go to Detroit for his accolades. If 7 was ever retired in Chicago it would be for Seabrook for sure.
