Come on now. Haha

You never know what your gonna get. Forsling was similar and waived. Mikkola. Ryan graves was an after thought. Ekman-Larson was said to be the worst day some had ever seen on this board. There are a lot of examples of guys falling through the cracks that reinvent themselves and become good to great and/or massively useful to winning teams.

I'm not saying this is that for either player, but we will see how things shake out.

Same goes for Vaak.
I'm so disgusted with this organization especially after stupidly signing Igor. I'm so... I have no words.

I still have a bunch to catch up on in this thread, but I'll just go on record that I have no issues with this trade.

The Rangers needed to move on, the player was frustrated and unmotivated, it was only going to get worse.

Drury gets two picks and a player I know I shouldn't admit to liking but I like. I should say, I think there's some real tools and Borgen is a player who has something to offer in the right role/situation. Idk if the Rangers are the best for realizing that kind of thing, but someone likened him to Mikkola. I think that's fair. Personally I see a lot of Kevin Klein in the player. He's a dawg.

I'll go to my grave convinced the rangers f***ed this kid up. He may never have been as good as advertised, but that doesn't mean he couldn't have been something much much better than he was for us.

Good luck to Kaapo. Seattle's my 2nd team since I lived in WSH through college and a while after. I'll still root for him. But God damnit I will never be excited to pick high in a draft again.

I gotta disagree here bud. I don’t think he was frustrated or unmotivated, until he was wrongfully benched to send our vets a message.

Drury controls the roster but Lavi controls the team. Mika should have been benched before Kakko. Kreider too.

You don’t bench a player who trying but struggling. You bench players who look like they stopped giving a shit on the ice.

So many people here called it. We all knew KK was going to get moved for his comments. Kid was 💯 right though.

At the end of the day I don’t have a problem moving Kakko. I have a problem with the horse shit return. Drury’s an absolute f***ing moron and I’m ashamed he’s our GM.

So why make a shit trade like this where we lose a solid player for what? Makes 0 sense to me, I am quickly losing interest in the Rangers for the time being. Absolutely hate that Swedish girl we are stuck with for god knows how long.
As indicated above, Drury took the best offer he received (if the Athletic article is true). Despite what's being reported, trading him now was the best for all concerned as things were only going to get worse from here. KK has complained about his TOI to the Finnish press from some time now. His most recent "outburst" pointed the finger squarely at PLav. At that point, there was no choice but to move him. If he remained, he'd more likely than not be a healthy scratch more often than not.

C'mon now, I respect the sentiment, but Will Borgen can't be the player that ends it.
Watching this team put the nails in the coffin of any semblance of the rebuild that they spent 4+ years on is enough to drive you to depression though.

y'all are so dumb. he will fit in so well if he ever makes his way to a team that plays real playoff hockey. He protects the puck, moves the puck well, keeps o zone possessions flowing, and goes to the net. Never flashed the shot but he has the goods to grind on a cup team 3rd line.

hurr durr he sucks

in an alternate universe Kakko would've been the perfect linemate for the Sedin twins

I never get to do these! So exciting!

We'll get to see if you're right about Kakko.

This strikes me as a trade with almost absolute zero chance of upside unless you’re looking to get a lottery pick.

Trading a 23-year-old who is pretty consistently a net positive for nothing that will become NHL players is an abomination.

Drury will someday be known as one of the worst things to ever happen to the franchise. Some will say he already is, but when we get a chance to look back, it will be far worse.

Are we allowed to acknowledge that Kakko whining about his icetime publicly for 6 years probably wasn’t great for morale given the lack of leadership in the room?
I never thought he whined. I thought he faked giving a confident answer to that type of question, which is a true competitor wants all the ice time. He knows the words but there's air behind it. Part of why he didn't work out - no dog in him.

Bruins fan here I wanted kakko and I would have offered Frederic for him which I thought was light but what Drury got from Seattle was underwhelming for sure. I'm really surprised by this and perplexed why Drury panicked and maybe would have gotten more at deadline. There was no reason to panic and cant understand how borgen moves the needle unless Drury knows something we dont know.

There was absolutely a time years ago that kakko was one of the most unliked players within his own locker room.

He's back playing in Finland before he's 30.

You’re telling me Kakkos value wouldn’t have been higher after the four nations tournament? Or at the deadline? Or on the draft floor?

Horrible return and even worse timing. Shit job by Drury. Wow

I can’t believe he actually made this trade. What justification is there for doing this now? Big time emperor’s new clothes moment for Drury.

Do you honestly think PLav was going to play him after blatantly pointing the finger at him? He would have been a permanent healthy scratch.

I mentioned this before, but it's very bold to assume his value would have stopped going down, let alone gone up.

Everyone has this crazy idea that he's going to be a big deal at the Four Nations. Finland is a much, much, much better team than the Rangers (can't believe that even needs to be said). He's barely going to play.

As I've said, there are arguments in his favor, but it's not an accident or some failure of the Rangers that he's been scratched by every coach. He couldn't point to the middle of the ice on a map. He's not going to make any fans with the coaches in this league. He's not going to last if he doesn't change, and it sure as hell wasn't happening here with a coach he's already clashing with.

The timing of this should have been much sooner, not later.
