Not a fan of this move.
Let him continue his development in Hartford. Why rush him to join a bad team.
Like trying to put out a four alarm blaze with a fire extinguisher.
Pathetic.
Moving out one ruined prospect to bring in another prospect to ruin.
That tracks.
Its a distraction to appease fans that want him in the lineup but are mad about the Kakko trade.

I would have loved a better return, and I know it's not comparing apples to apples, but I just keep coming back to how our former '#2OA, solid middle-6 winger' has just 2 more 5v5 points through the last season and a half than the '#7D/who the f*** is that guy' hack we got back from Seattle in this steal of a trade for them.

Didn't someone say that Drury received 2-3 other offers and decided to take the Kraken one? Have to wonder how bad the others were (unless, of course, they came from Eastern Division teams).

All in all, I can't imagine how much more anyone thinks we should have gotten. KK reached a plateau which was far below expectations. One has to wonder if there were other factors involved that weren't made public -- I'd love to know the reason why all three of his coaches found it necessary to make him a healthy scratch during his time here.

Man, I haven't posted in like 5 years, but the overreactions here are so heavy, I couldn't resist.

Not defending Drury's overall tenure (some of his moves have been terrible), and I don't think the way Kakko has been handled, especially this season, has been smart or helpful toward his development.

But Kakko was NEVER going to last here. High picks who don't pan out into stars always get moved, usually at around this point in their careers. Ranger fans should know this well, since for years, we were a repository of other teams 1st round disappointments. Benoit Pouliot, anyone?

Kakko is a solid play-driving winger, but he has had opportunities to score under numerous coaches...and it just hasn't happened.

And the return isn't really that crazy. Yeah, would have been nice to get a 2nd for him, but no way he was fetching a 1st.

Besides, he wanted out and didn't want to be here, anyway. And I don't blame him. He was never going to get out from under the bust label.

This team has much, MUCH bigger problems than whether they got a 2nd or a 3rd for Kakko.

Also, this is all karma for giving this kid Callahan's number. :P
Whoa, blast from the past!

Joe is already glazing and had to change three times since hearing the trade for a useless depth defensemen that doesn’t defend lol

Mika and Kreider have waited for this day. Scumbags.

Just know I will be smiling the day Mika is no longer playing hockey and DJing in some rat infested hole in seaside heights

I hoped for the Habs, Devils, Panthers and the Canes before Kraken but I' ll take it and I'm actually excited for Kakko. He deserved a new chance somewhere else after getting handled in this way. Let's go Kaapo!

KK was never going to reach his 2OA potential. I think most of us have made peace with that. But he wasn’t a Kravtsov or Andersson. He’s definitely a full time NHL player.

I’m actually happy for him. I hope he flourishes. He 100% was moved for his comments. I made a joke a few days ago saying if the team continues sucking ass they should bench Kakko to send a message. That actually f***ing happened. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Those old enough to have survived the dark ages know hard times. This is different though. There’s a fox in the henhouse. And I’m not talking about Adam.

We have a rotten core, and a shit for brains GM. I hope we hear some FIRE DRURY chants erupting next game.

Is this Borgen dude any good?

Wish Kaapo all the best. It just never worked out here. Could see him score 60+ points easily with the right coach and team and a non cursed franchise.

According to the Athletic article someone posted link to a few pages back:

Kakko’s comments did not factor into the team’s decision to move him. Seattle began talks with the Rangers over the weekend, per a league source, and beat out other offers for the winger. The Rangers were not to commit to Kakko, a pending restricted free agent, long term.

Makes you wonder just how bad the other offers were. As I stated earlier, vultures are circling and other GMs are looking to fleece the Rangers big time right now.

He’s ok. Bottom pairing dman. I like his aggressiveness. He doesn’t let forwards skate the puck in the blueline without pressure. He’s physical. He’ll block shots. He skates pretty well. But he’s not good with the puck. He’s a bigger and faster version of Lindgren.

We could have probably acquired him for a mid round pick. That’s what bothers me. I would have rather seen Drury make that move than trade Kakko for him + 3rd and 6th.

Just an awful display of asset management by Drury. Again.
