I will openly admit to having not seen him play.

You feel we made a hockey trade here???

I'll watch with no agenda, but Kakko, despite not even being a player I held in high regard is not someone I would've dealt for this player. Not close.

Kakko hasn’t shown the ability to create offense regularly. It’s been a problem for years. I’m not saying it’s perfect value but again, if we look at this like

Kakko for 3rd + 6th
Borgen for 3rd + 5th at the deadline

That’s pretty good value for a young player who is 1 year from UFA and hasn’t been able to carve out a role on the team above someone who Drury could sign on a deal around $1m per season.

Well there’s always a chance he doesn’t fit or the team sucks or he asks for too much money or term, etc.

Again, from seeing him play, he’s a physical, solid skating RD. He’s not a #7 anywhere. He struggled this year but look at 22-23 and 23-24
I hope you're right, I don't see it. Even if he is a 3rd pair d, like is that what we expect to get out of Kakko? Consider me whelmed.

The big winner in this deal, Kakko

Looks to me to be a pretty shit return.

There's a thing that sometimes happens with young players that they break out after being moved the first time and this could very much happen here. A year from now this could look like Rick Middleton for Ken Hodge bad.....very much the worst trade the Rangers have made in my 50+ years of watching the team. This could go that bad.

For a bottom pairing d-man in his rental season and a 3rd and 6th round pick. WTF. Even on its face if Kakko remains the same player he is now that's a poor deal. Shit trades like this get GM's fired.
Keep in mind this is the guy that other coaches scratched including this coach during the run for the cup.

I'll say it again, this place was non stop KK sucks. The "trade this guy already" mantra resonated. Many/most here had thrown in the towel on the 2OA Fin.

Other teams watch the games and it wasn't a secret that this guy was a slow footed, plodding cycle guy who misses the net with frequency. a guy who isn't afraid to speak to the media when he's not happy.

Blame who you want for his reduced value, but the player bears the most blame here. His value was diminished and that's mostly on him.

I'm no Drury fan but his hands were bound. trying to move damaged goods For more than equal value ain't easy.

Again, disagree.

Kakko had warts, hence me saying he wasn't my fav.

He had value well beyond this deal.

IF this were the best offer. I Keep him. I don't scratch him the other night either.

As far as I Know, he's not a BIG PART of the problem. Part? I AM SURE. WHO WOULD BLAME HIM?

But if you're a GM & this is your deal, you're done IMO

This is worse than the buch trade IMO

This reeks of tampering. THATS how bad it is.

People waited their whole lives for a pick like that, and picks of that caliber have altered and even rebirthed franchises.

Ours was Kaapo Kakko.

That's valid enough reason.
boo hoo my 2nd overall pick didnt rebirth my franchise waaaah i don't want him.

you've been a whiny bitch about this player forever. this is what you wanted - for him to be gone at any cost. Congrats!

I mean, even Lafreniere is still really disappointing, but I just kind of let be because who wants to talk about it?

At least he's a good player. At least he goes to hard areas. He's fun.

Hell, Jacob Trouba was fun sometimes. Matt Rempe is fun.

Kakko was soft and particularly hard to watch.

If you want to argue he was a net positive, I get it. But nobody is obligated to like every player on the team. Wanting to move on from a player because "I just don't enjoy this," unless they're a star, is a valid reason.
