Looking at Kakko's value over the years and saying you should have traded him X year is valid.

If there was a better offer today, we would have taken it. Like... :dunno:

Said the same thing about the Buchnevich trade tbh.

Nobody offered Drury an excellent prospect and he was just like "nah I really want Sammy Blais."

You could make the argument, and I would agree with you, that you just keep Buchnevich. Can't say that about Kakko imo.

I was jus debating the KK value in his thread yesterday. I was told a 1st or 2nd. I figured if a 1st was possible he would have been gone a long time ago. I held out hope for a second. I said his value was a 2nd to a 5th. I think this package was the best offer out there.
If Seattle retained at least half it would've been better.

I’ll never forget this board the day we got the #2 pick.

Posters like Edge (rightfully) calling this a franchise-altering moment. Then this guy goes out and dominates the World Championship. We’ve had it so bad that people were blessing the hockey gods. Nothing lucky ever happens to this team.

If someone had told you that 5 years and ~130 (rofl) points later, he’d be traded for metal scraps you’d say “not even the Rangers can f*** this up”. Hold my f***ing beer.

None of us deserve this shit. Truly.

We failed. We got caught up in the hype and ignored a fatal flaw in his game.

He had/has holes. He has the same holes he's always had and we saw those holes back in 2019.

Consensus #2 yup. We agree there. That was the belief.

His skating was and continues to be his problem. He was slow afoot in his draft year and he's that same guy today.

He was over drafted at 2 because at 2 you don't take a guy with that kind of hole in his game.

Power forwards who can't skate are round 2 guys not 2OA guys.
Yup. Speed and quickness is most important these days.

Two things particularly annoy me about this trade.

1- Kakko was 100% traded now because of his comments. I've seen a few people point out that his comments were critical of Lav (which they were), but they were more critical of Zib/Kreider (the guys who, per Kakko, were more deserving of the pressbox). Immediately trading a player who dared to call out the crap play of our "stars" only serves to further placate those "stars." I'm pissed because it's basically management's way of taking a shot across the bow of any player who would dare to hurt the feelings of the bromantic duo. Not only is this protecting the duo, but it also shows that the team CAN take action when they want to address a problem--they just refuse to do so with the biggest problems on the roster. The entree is rotten and these f***ers are rearranging the damn parsley.

2- I was livid when I saw that the team had been after Borgen for years. This is exactly like the Buchnevich trade, and it demonstrates that Drury has learned nothing from his biggest mistake (there were also reports that the team had coveted Blais for years). The problem isn't so much that they felt they had to move Buch or Kakko. They had a logical reason with the former and the latter was kind of holding their feet to the fire. It's that Drury has no concept of value. It's like buying a $10k engagement ring, having the girl say no, and then thinking, "you know, I've been wanting to buy a new $400 television for years. I'll trade this ring for the TV since I don't have immediate plans for it anymore!" Kakko entered Drury's trade pool, and his response was to spend that currency immediately rather than playing it out to maximize value. And this is the second time he did it. Drury is a dumb motherf***er.

Fire Drury. Fire Lav. Let the replacements trade Kreider and Lindgren.

Wouldn't Rangers fans (myself included) agree that Kakko was rushed into the NHL? Just because he was a 2OA doesn't mean he should have played in the NHL in the season following the draft.
He dominated the World Championship tournament as an 18 year old playing against men. It was never a question of him not being ready.

Could he have had issues with diabetes and celiac that impacted his training? Maybe. But it's becoming more and more clear to me that part of the issue is between the ears. He's been spouting bullshit to the media for over two years saying he's not happy.

As a player, I wanted to keep him. But it's easy to see why he may not have many friends in the locker room and now being shipped out so quickly after talking to the media two days ago.

100%
It was evident pretty early that he wasn't 'NHL ready'. I don't think there was anyone in the organisation then (or even now) who really understood how to develop top-end talent, both on and off the ice.
