f*** this f***ing worthless team. Burn it all down. f***ing Pejorative Slurs trade our leader in +/- and the one non-ELC player performing above his cap hit for NOTHING while our worthless vets like Mika and CK continue to suck shit to the tune of -20 every game.

f*** THIS ORGANIZATION
Lucky for you Drury has decided to skip the rebuild and literally just burn it down.

But on the bright side, won't ruin his weekend. Maybe we can get more little league stats instead of watching this dumpster fire.

Drury whispered sweet nothings into Dolan's ear about how the team was too soft post Wilson slam with JD and Gorts, and only he, the savior, could make the team heavier and get them over the hump to finally win a championship. Whether you think it was the right move to get rid of them at the time, Drury is an a-hole and has always been an a-hole. Doesn't help that he was wrong about being the savior, too.

Only good thing is this plus Vaak kind of spells the end of Lindgren I think.

I liked Borgen A few years ago. Have no idea what he is now.

He's definitely having a down year. 20+ point guy the last 2 before this though. RH Lindgren with good size. Agree 100% that Vaak and Borgen make Lindgren expendable. Trade him for anything ASAP

How was drafting him a failure when he was the consensus #2 overall pick?
We failed. We got caught up in the hype and ignored a fatal flaw in his game.

He had/has holes. He has the same holes he's always had and we saw those holes back in 2019.

Consensus #2 yup. We agree there. That was the belief.

His skating was and continues to be his problem. He was slow afoot in his draft year and he's that same guy today.

He was over drafted at 2 because at 2 you don't take a guy with that kind of hole in his game.

Power forwards who can't skate are round 2 guys not 2OA guys.

That's ridiculously untrue.
Ok, Brodzinski might be harsh, but let me offer this instead.

I'll admit, Kakko is a decent NHL'er who just annoys me more than he's actually bad, but he's just like Vesey. He's a solid role player who kills offense if he plays too high for too long.

The idea that Kakko is this secret impact monster is Devils fan propaganda.

A cheaper one
And?

He's a player we will want to upgrade come the offseason, just not for $8m.

What a pathetic return. I would rather have nothing. Or more picks.

This does zero for us. This is a player that if all goes according to any semblance of any even half cooked plan, is being replaced this coming June and July.

Bottom of the barrel player who will walk in 6 months. I'm so glad we got a third round pick for Kakko.

Blocking shots and protecting Igor is the lowest bar you could have.

The only way I'll be OK with this is if they're literally preparing to tank hard and brought in this garbage ass to trade away Miller & Lindgren and then let him walk at the end of the year.

This is pathetic and frankly, outside of drafting KK, everything they've done since then has been an abomination.

I'm so sick of this damn franchise.
I'm so sick of this f***ing franchise having no idea how to build a winner.

honestly the targeting a shitty player thing bothers me more than the return

Kakko is the definition of mid. It sucks he busted and I think a lot of the reaction to this trade is based off the fact that him being a bust is now basically confirmed. There’s no tiny bit of hope to hold onto that he’ll magically figure it out here. He’s gone and that chapter is over.

I read an article this morning in The Athletic where they looked at other high picks that were traded recently to try to peg Kakko's value. This is what the conclusion was:

"So what can Drury expect? A second-round pick? Maybe a package of a later pick plus a pending unrestricted free agent? Perhaps one team values Kakko enough to make a bigger offer, but that’s no guarantee at this point."

I was hoping for a second but maybe it's in line with what should have been expected.

If you can't read the article, it mentioned:

Dach (former #3) for 13 and 66. Dach was 2 years younger so there was more upside to bet on.

Byram (former #4) for Mittelstadt. Author concluded Byram had more upside and so this kind of return was unrealistic.

Broberg (former #8) leaving for an offer sheet that returned a 2nd. This was the ideal return presented.

Podkolzin (former #10) for a fourth. Podkolzin isn't as good and not as established so you'd expect more.

Newhook (former #16) for a 1st and 2nd. Newhook was coming off two 30-point seasons and had that Cup winner luster.
So... we got a worse return than any of those packages.

At least if it was a first I'd be upset they punted on a 2OA but it's a reasonable lottery ticket.
