That’s what Drury has build

He’s created a complete mess and is trying to trade from that position.

I don’t understand why and how some expect fair value when you are dealing from a position of weakness and not strenght
I don't watch NYR at all. I don't know anything about them other than their struggles this season.

I expected them to be one of the top teams this year .

Every time I watched the rangers in the playoffs I’ve never been particularly impressed. He’s had multiple times throughout his career to assert himself into a larger role including last yr playoffs when he was moved up into a scoring role and never stayed.

This wasn't for best return. This was a reactionary trade. He opened his mouth and was being delta immediately before the roster freeze.

If the Rangers drafted Hughes do we think he'd be the player he is now or would he be toiling away on the 3rd line with the occasional hint of PP2 time?
Definitely the latter unless he magically meshed with Kreider/Zibenejad with 10m of ice time a game

Players gather to remove Drury... kakko speaks out... Immediate trade.. Drury is gonna do it his way.

Man, this is such a lost opportunity for Grier and the San Jose Sharks. Kaapo Kakko and his age would fit well in their rebuild. My guess is Grier was low-balling the offer and lost out on the bid.

Since it was public knowledge Kaapo Kakko would need to be traded, it's a trading war and Seattle won. If it wasn't a trading war like Askarov, Grier could have better chance.

I'll chalk this up as a win for Seattle and a loss to all other teams.

get excited ranger fans

Let's not forget that KK pretty much sucks.

Aren't we beyond the fallacy of valuing guys based on where they were drafted rather than on their actual ability to play ice hockey.

The return was commensurate with the value of the player. Flip Borgen at the deadline for a 3rd and 5th and then you have two 3s a 5 and a 6.

Overall decent value for a diminished asset.

  1. Love when people outside the NHL say, "Is that all the GM could get???" Everyone knows that the rangers are open for business so you think that Drury had a much better offer for Kakko and just said, "No thanks - I'll take less from another team."
  2. With that said...This was the market for Kakko. Should tell you what all NHL people think of him, and why I dont think the rangers will regret trading him.
  3. However...Zero downside for Seattle. If Kakko magically puts it together and reaches his potential then wholly shit did Seattle accelerate their build. Even if he becomes a decent 3rd liner, then it was worth it. If he totally flames out then they basically gave up nothing.

Does Borgen + 3rd + 6th = a 2nd? Because Kakko for a 2nd seems about right.

I don't really get the whole laughing at the Rangers thing about this. Kakko is a an almost 24 year old very meh player.
