Seattle is the franchise that always collects players that their former teams no longer want or they see as a dime a dozen player and easily replaceable. Seattle still looking to land a true superstar forward, they've never had one.

They offered $14M per to Panarin last season and couldn't land him. I don't think Seattle is an attractive location for majority of players.

He’s young and hitting his prime. Florida isn’t easy to move up the ladder on, they had a rough year and he did produce. This is an obvious good pickup. Seattle has two firsts and this isn’t that great a draft. Seattle has had a ton of picks, it’s time for players and at 23 he fits right in with the youth movement they’ve got going on. They weren’t getting a first line forward with the 25th pick. I’d assume there was competition to get him, thus the second. I’d bet Ottawa wanted him until Seattle upped the price.

Trades are where improvement lies this off season. It’s competitive and Seattle picked a guy that fits the plan. They’re going to shed a veteran or two on wing and McMann was a good fit for them. They’re a team that’s going to win with depth and after yesterday I think they’re deeper.

While SEA has no state income tax, their weather isn't sunny. It's similar to Van and those grey skies from Nov to Feb can be depressing if you are not accustomed to it. Plus, travel, it's a lot of travel.

Need to win a little to convince players to join. Kind of the chicken or the egg for them.

Or pay a little extra at times. I consider them a mid market team, and they (like many others) have to pay a mid market team tax. Or a lack of palm trees tax if you prefer. Flip flop tax? I think here that it wouldn’t have surprised me if Mack was wanted by Ottawa in the Tkachuk trade and Seattle threw in a second to get their guy.
