Guy played every single game for the Panthers in 2022-23 on their way to an improbable Cup Finals run. Not going to set the world on fire, but he's fine, you can win with him. Good value.
Not entirely sure what had him fall a little bit out of favour with Florida this year, if it was just getting passed by other preferred depth of a different "type" or "style" or what. But he seems like a great bargain depth defenceman for Seattle. Especially at absolutely minimum dollars. His mobility stood out to me, and it seemed like he was starting to really get it together and find something with Florida...then just sorta faded into the background.
They really had nowhere to play him with the additions of Mikkola and OEL. Then they liked what they saw from Uvis Balinskis, who skates better and can move the puck more effectively, and decided to go in that direction.
Mahura is a guy who won't cost your team a hockey game, and there's something to be said for that, but he seems to have plateaued as... a guy who won't cost your team a hockey game.
