I got the Marchand on Sedin vibes as well. If Matthews hadn’t already had a long history of guys like Trouba, Chiarot, Weber, putting the lumber on him and forcing him to miss time, sure, headly play. But at the same time, you have to make it hurt for him to play you that tough.
I think a lot of new age thinking will say, why draw the retaliation penalty? But historically I look at a guy like Mark Messier, who would have put Chiarot in the infirmary for touching him, whereas Mario Lemieux took so much abuse he was always injured. If you can’t protect yourself by discouraging others you will always be a target.
