Feeling a lot less nervous about this game because my expectations are a lot lower. Just go out and try to be safe and have fun.

Oddly I'm feeling less nervous because I expect the boys to come out that much stronger. Ice has been broken. Nerves have been settled. Leafs have an even bigger purpose to play for now (JT). Hyman got his feet wet now coming off injury. Marner hopefully got his jitters out of the way and adapts to the pressure. The vets hopefully spoke up in the room. The boys recieved as good of news as possible about JT....I think we come up hungry and hard. If we don't, I'll be much more concerned. But I was on edge last game when puck dropped. This time in much more relaxed...but for a much different reason than yourself. BeLeaf my friend, we got this

I got the Marchand on Sedin vibes as well. If Matthews hadn’t already had a long history of guys like Trouba, Chiarot, Weber, putting the lumber on him and forcing him to miss time, sure, headly play. But at the same time, you have to make it hurt for him to play you that tough.

I think a lot of new age thinking will say, why draw the retaliation penalty? But historically I look at a guy like Mark Messier, who would have put Chiarot in the infirmary for touching him, whereas Mario Lemieux took so much abuse he was always injured. If you can’t protect yourself by discouraging others you will always be a target.

Thought the same thing. But I remember the hearing Keefe talk about playing tough between the whistles and ignoring the stuff after. I'm sure the guy wants to engage, but he's also the top pupil on this team. No change he'll just ignore an organizational suggestion. He's not Simmonds, so Keefe isn't just gonna drop the 'sometimes the guys just take it in their own hands' message. Not saying that Matthews would or could smack a dude. Just that there may be more to his restraint than just being a pansy.
