Im curious though, wtf do the refs do during the intermissions? Don’t they review the plays and shit they may have missed or did call to make sure their calls were right.

A win is a win when it comes to the playoffs, but I'm a bit disappointed in how the Avs played. Considering the Stars' injury list, we really needed Blackwood to bail us out big time. Far too much for what I thought was acceptable.

A lot of players were solid. 1st and 3rd lines were legit. 2nd line was a tyre fire big time, Nuke was lost all game and Drouin managed to kill our 5v3 better than the Stars PKers did. But then Manson decided to run all over the ice with no structure by playing as stupidly as humanly possible. He was our worst player quite easily. The scoreline also flattered us, too. I was sort of impressed by how well Dallas played, being that shorthanded and only being down a goal entering the middle frame of the 3rd period. I think we need to be up more at that point of time and it rests on the 2nd line getting their heads out of their arses and contributing something. Not necessarily a goal, but a good shift, some zonal time, or a scoring chance. Too many players missed nets all over the place as well. That was a good start, but some areas definitely need improvements so we don't get Dallas'd like last year after winning Game 1.

We know the Avs after a long break typically do not look good. They hadn't played in 6 days and some hadn't played in 10-17 days.

There's bound to be rust for guys like MacKinnon, Makar, Drouin, Nichushkin, Manson, Lindgren, etc.

I don't think it should come as a surprise that our best looking players all night happened to be the guys who didn't rest and played up until game 82: Coyle, Kiviranta, Drury, O'Connor, and Kelly.

Oh yeah, the rust didn't help. I was telling my buddy I thought we were going to win the series, but lose game one. Thankfully, we won game one. Agreed with everything you said, but I am a bit concerned because no team isn't going to go far when their best line was the 3rd one. Again, just one game where rust could have been a major issue. Nonetheless, I thought MacKinnon and the first line were quite decent. Not perfect, but played positive hockey.

And this is what I hate about that kind of game management based on the score. All it accomplishes is letting the worse team cheat and have a chance to come back. That's not a fair way to call games.
But it worked so well for Nintendo with Mario Kart though?

Those chintzy calls are like the blue shell of the NHL

I don't disagree, they were ok. But I'd rather play ok and get a 5-1 win than play ok and get smoked 5-1.

This team hasn't played a meaningful game in like 3-4 weeks, thanks NHL for the shitty playoff format and the whole team had a week off before the playoffs due to obscurely of scheduling. And some guys haven't even played a game in like 2-3 weeks, it was bound to be touch and go game 1.

At the end of the day Dallas played pretty solid and we played mid. But yet we found a way to win a road playoff game. We can and most likely will play better as the series goes on.

The biggest concern for me is line 2. Nelson has been a bust since he got here, Drouin is playing very bad hockey and they drag down Nuke. But after game 1 where lines 1 and 3 looked good, not sure how you revamp line 2. It would be stupid to break up lines 1 and 3 for the sake of line 2.

When he's on - like he was last night - it reminds me of 2022. He's a force when he's 100%.
People complain about Manson during the regular season every year and rip him. But evaluating Manson in the regular season is completely irrelevant.

We have him for one reason only - the playoffs - where he’s a completely different player and animal and truly excels.

But @S E P H said he was our worst player in game 1.

Disagree, the centerpiece of line 1 (29) is successful with anyone you put him with and it isn’t like trying him with drouin and nuke is some sort of risky business. That is a proven effective line combo. We will not win anything of substance with line 2 as it is. It must be revamped. I would much rather shake up our line 1 last night than line 3. An effective line 3 has been harder to find lately than finding a combo that is effective with Mack (everyone).

Mack can play with anyone but Drouin can’t. Drouin plays his best with Mack and with the current roster so does Nuke. Nelson also looks the best with Necas since he can drive the play. Just doesn’t make sense for Bednar to not go with what works but here we are.

If Colton can’t go and Lando is in I’d go…

27 - 29 - 13
62 - 11 - 88
92 - 10 - 94
17 - 18 - 25

As Tormund Giantsbane said, ‘This is the way.’
