Confirmed with Link: Scott Laughton (50% Retention), 2025 4th, 2027 6th to the Leafs for Nikita Grebenkin, conditional 2027 1st

Unlike the ROR and Foligno deadline trades, Laughton comes signed for next season. Uncertain if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

We could have replaced Laughton with a player from the marlies and IMHO we would have never noticed.
He doesn’t move the needle and wont

It was just not a good trade. It’s not Tre first or last I’m afraid. And i’m not saying he hasn’t made some good moves. He has

This one hurts because a 1st rd pick should of got better value IMHO

It was almost mandated that they had to spend Minten, 2x 1sts and whatever on anything they could get their hands on. It was such a desperate gotta do something mentality. Although I thought they did okay on the Carlo deal.

Carlo was a good deal.
Laughton is a bad deal.

So both deals end up being okay, lol.

Interesting to see where will Laughton plays next season.
3C is available but he needs to have wingers who can score and play D. Ideally, McMann and Brown(UFA).

FFS if we keep Laughton they should set him up for success and put him in a top six accessory role. Go be Matthews digger or something.

I liked the Carlo deal but again we constantly seem to always be panicking to aquire certain players.

Most of them end up being rentals and I know Laughton has another year here but he is just a 4th liner like he was on a terrible team in Philly. That’s bad spending of resources especially when your assets are already thin.

It will be interesting to see what Tre and Berube have planed.

I’m not overly confident because this team has gotten older and slower. And our bottom six needs a serious upgrade.

I hope we can resign Lorentz because he is the perfect 4th liner for Berube low event hockey.

I’m not overly confident that even with Shanny gone that we have the right people to put us in the right direction.

I have see enough of Berube system to be honest. It’s boring and proved nothing. He didn’t have a Billington to save his system. And good luck in finding these big fast forecheckers who can score to fit in his system. They are hard to find.

We have too many signed players like Kampf and Jrock…Reilly who are way to passive and don’t use their size at all.

Reilly is like 230lbs and one of the worst top 4 D in the league defensively and terrible against a forecheck.

Fans asking for Laughton to move up in the lineup are delusional

Sorry but he won’t magically make the top six better or help. He isn’t a passer or a shooter. His career has proven this. He is a 4th liner.

It’s like expecting Domi to fill Marner shoes. He will never be that playmaker and Marner is a lot better defensively. Also Domi is no better forechecking then Marner and I think fans think he is because he fights every once in awhile. But you look at his board work and it’s not good.

Mostly on the same page.

I like the idea of Berube and what he’s tried to do for the team on the whole. But there is a self neutering feel to the style of play and the defensive upside is not always there either. I think we have to turn over a lot more of the roster to get it to work.

I think Berube’s system is supposed to give us such a strong backbone defensively it unlocks an offensive swagger. If the idea is to turn into a Florida-like team I think they need to cycle though at least 7-8 bodies before we get to that finished product… and does a coach have that kind of shelf life.

If Tavares isn't re-signed, an I don't really care if he is or not, then Laughton should be tried as the #2C. Put this guy with Nylander and see if he can squeeze any offense out of him.

Laughton hovered around half-a-point/game during his time in Philly. He was getting solid offensive opportunities in order to do it, but he did it. He could end up giving the team 20 goals and close to 50 points. That's just fine.

His career high was 43 points, this man will not be able to play with Nylander...it's not an option.

I'd sure like it to be.

The more I think about this team, the more I want them to save cap space in 2025-26 so they can go nuts for McDavid the year after. So don't pay Tavares, and don't spend all of Marner's money on Bennett or other forwards.

Save like poor person and let Laughton be a #2C for a year. Miss the playoffs if you have to. Only spend on 1 year deals. Then toss McDavid whatever he wants to be a Leaf and start building a contender from there.

And then when McDavid gets signed by Edmonton, we can reflect on the wasted season we just had.

9 times in the last 9 years we've reflected on the wasted season we just had.

I'm willing to waste one more season for the chance at the best player in the world. Just pretend they're tanking for a draft pick. It's just that the player we want to pick is already almost 30.

The Leafs have everything McDavid would need to win a Cup already here. Get an upgrade on Mo and this team is better in every way than the supporting cast McDavid has in Edmonton right now. Matthews/Nylander together are better than just Drai. There's a competent defense and great goaltending for once. He couldn't lose if he came here.

You don't trade a 1st for a guy that brings zero offence. Pretty bad move by Tre, there were better options out there...I don't care that he's retained and has another year left.

Whomever in pro scouting said “we gotta get Laughton” has to get lost. You don’t recommend a Dewar level player at the cost of a potentially Easton Cowan pick and still deserve a pro scouting job with the Leafs. Anybody watching YouTube clips can recommend anyone. This was just an inappropriate use of resources. Nice guy though. Not his fault.

I've watched lots of bad Leaf hockey - back to the early 80's... I don't know that we ever would have trudged out a more hopeless 2nd line center than Scott Laughton.

Slow, not big, can't shoot and has limited vision. This season was pretty horrid to watch night in and night out but that would take things to a new level.

The true play is to sit Matthews out all year and tank for a high pick. Then sign McJesus

Laughton was a tough trade to swallow when it comes to the offensive output provided. But with that said you are paying $1.5 million for a 3rd/4th line center that is effective in Berube style of game. He maybe didnt score as much this past season but I say he picks it up next season and his line was the most consistent in entire playoffs with Lorentz and Jarnkrok.

Price paid to get him was bad. But having him next season at his number is a win for the Leafs as he can only get better then this past season. And he has shown to be able to chip in offensively over his career in Philly.

Except he wasn't effective in the system, not many people were, but he was especially bad.

He has another season to redeem himself, but nothing points to him doing that.

When the highlight of your season is a blocked shot, you know it is bad.
