Confirmed with Link: Scott Laughton (50% Retained), 4th Round Pick and 6th Round Pick Traded To TOR For Nikita Grebenkin and 1st Round Pick

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

For all the hype on a bidding war, we had to:

Get a pick TWO years away
Top 10 protected
Give up a 4th
Give up a 6th
Retain half the salary

Bad trade.
I don't think it's a bad trade, but as the details come out, it went from great (Laughton for '26 1st and Grebenkin) to not bad.

It is for basically a 4

It is for basically a 4th line center. A very good one but still. And retention this year doesn’t matter. It’s 1.5 next year. Then all the retention is gone…Hayes, Laughton and Deangelo. About 7 million. Next year. I think.
Kuzmenko is the 3rd

2027?! I mean I’m not sobbing, but again, they turned down a draft day 1st a couple years ago from St. Louis. Now, this pick won’t have any impact until the 2030s. But the rebuild is also ending next season. That makes sense. No team cares less about time value of picks than the Flyers though, that’s for sure.

4th rounder is for this years raft the sixt rounder is in 2027

I'm in the middle on the return. 2027 is a long way away, and why on earth did Briere give up two picks on top of a 50% retention?

But Grebyonkin is a much more intriguing prospect than Minten and there was no cap dump that Tortorella can instantly put on PP1.

I do worry that losing Laughton will hurt the Flyers' chance of tanking.

Spot on.

How's the 27 draft look?
Three months away from being two years away.

I really dont think this is a horrible trade. Adding the picks and retaining is dumb but if we were the ones trading a 1st and a prospect we liked for Laughton we would be rioting
Retaining is a prerequisite for a trade with a cap ceiling team like Toronto.

There's a lot of problems with this deal and many of the others Briere has been making. Namely continually adding picks years down the line when there is not much in the pipeline to hang your hat on. Michkov is going to be midway through his second contract before any hope of these picks ever arrives on the roster. This is after continually delaying trading guys like Laughton when the picks already could have been in the system now. The Flyers timelines and approach is incoherent. We saw the same thing with last year's asinine trade with Edmonton at the draft.

The only logical explanation is that they never intend to use the majority of these picks so they can make another Flyers trademark splash trade that will be dubious at best.

What a great deal. He held out until he got what he wanted.

They can use it for a player, or to draft someone.

The beacons of Minas Tirith were lit, and the crowd cheered as Pippin leads us to the promise land.

(It’s an okay deal, for a guy that should have been moved years ago)

They really wanted Grebyonkin so they took the 2027 pick and gave up some late picks.

I love it tbh. Big fan of this kid and favor this over getting, say a 2025 27th OVR pick or something.

I don't mind this trade at first glance. Grebenkin was putting up good numbers in the KHL for a teenager and solid numbers in first year in the AHL. I would never give up a 1st round pick for Laughton

I don't understand why we had to also include picks if we were retaining 50% though

  • We traded Scott Laughton when some of us thought it wouldn't ever happen.
  • The Leafs took him on as there big Deadline move.
  • We got a 1st round pick
  • We got a prospect who is friends with Michkov
  • Said prospect is actually looking to be decent.
  • 6th rounder - who gives a f***.
  • 4th rounder...we have 7 picks in the first round of this years draft
  • If the cost of acquiring a 2027 first round pick, and a 21 year old prospect with skill and friends with Michkov for Scott Laughton is retention of half his salary, i don't give a shit.
