Scott Arniel named Winnipeg Jets head coach

2nd chances work out sometimes. Arniel would win the Jack Adams but for what Carberry has done with a team that many thought might scrap into the playoffs and almost won the Presidents Trophy.
To be fair, that description applies to us too except for "almost won".

Congrats to Scott.

While he wasn't my top choice I was on board with giving him a second chance and always liked him as a head coach back when the Moose won.

It just goes to show you that it's never too late to be introspective, improve your ability, and grow as a person and coach.

Also fantastic choices on the assistant coaches.

I refuse to grow as a person. And you cant make me.

Biggest difference is that Arniel did take over a 110 point team and that's the only reason Carberry will win
Normally I would say this is the case. But this line of thinking needs to include a collective amnesia of the voters who from what I saw didn't have any respect for that 110 point season in October.

Jets don't seem to even exist.

I'll keep adding...

Winnipeg Jets

The Jets had a massive 110 points last season, and the bones of that team are still in place, including arguably the league’s best goalie in Connor Hellebuyck. But while this is a very good team, they fell short last post-season, and let several good players go (Tyler Toffoli, Sean Monahan, Brenden Dillon, Laurent Brossoit to name a few) without really replacing them, so it’ll be a year-long battle for the playoffs, barring the addition of some help along the way.

Wheres that sportsnet preseason article that predicted the jets would miss the playoffs...

The one I saw was a video of Armstrong and Gazdic saying the Jets won't make it. Consentino was the only one to look at them like they were crazy and brought up their 110 point season.

I think even the question was insulting because it wasn't even where do you think the Jets will place, it was who do you think has a better chance at just making the playoffs, Calgary or Winnipeg or something to that effect.

Ive spent too much time searching for it and gave up. I can't find it.

Jets don't seem to even exist.

Just yet another reason why I don't give two shits what any of the so called experts say.

I have found that Arniel seems to be much better than previous coaches at adjusting in-game. Maurice especially seemed to be pretty stubborn in that regard. He would constantly insist on carting out Scheifele and Wheeler over and over, running them with often crazy minutes, even if it was pretty clear that they were not playing well.

It could have even contributed to some of the locker room drama that plagued the Jets.

There have been countless games this year where they come out with a terrible period or a poor sequence but manage to right the ship quickly. Before it felt like they would come out flat, stick to what they were doing that wasn't working for most of the game, and only be able to fix things with less than 10 minutes left when it became much more desperate and frantic.

Arniel has been great.

Headline: "People who don't know anything about the Jets have strong opinions about them"

I am not surprised by the decision, but I can't even be happy for him. Sure he gets another shot, but what the f*** has he even done to earn it? He had a hot month in December sure, but saying he earned it is very shortsighted. At this point you're not even shuffling the deck chairs on the cruise ship - you're bringing up a recliner from second class.

I'm going to keep an open mind about it, but I'm not going to pretend to be enthusiastic. The silver lining is we at least have to look at the special team's coaching again.

I'm glad I was open minded about it. I sold him short here, but my indignation still remains. I was unhappy with the coaching of the team last year, and how the team really fell short in the playoffs. I saw this as more of the same. It was incumbent on him to win me over, and he did. My reasons for being annoyed at the promotion still remain valid. They didn't really even look for a replacement after Bowness retired, who was himself the silver medal after Barry Trotz decided to not come here (after a literal month of hemming and hawing over the job).

And yeah, they f***ing nailed the special teams and defensive coach assignments.

Totally ok with this considering how well he did in Bones's absence, now hire your own assistant coaches Scott and we should be good.
Man that Dude guy is pretty smart.:naughty::laugh: Honestly if i had my way Dale Hawerchuk would be our head coach right now but Arniel was definitely the right choice.

Who is deserving of coach of the year beside Scott Arniel?

Spencer Carbery, Capitals

The Jets were predicted to be in a wild-card fight all season and maybe get the 2nd wild-card spot, where the Capitals were predicted to be no where near the playoffs and would spend every game just trying to get goals for Ovi. So of the Jets and Capitals... who has the more surprising result?

Funny that the 2 best teams in the NHL were picked before the start of the season to not do so well.
