He's not any cheaper than any coach who's available and likely willing to come here would be.
That’s not true. You throw enough money and any coach available would come. Considering the statements your owner has made about attendance and money. It was a choice to do the cheapest route possible. It’s why the fans deserve better.

Doesn't this guy have a losing record? Seems a dumb hire when there are other guys available.

They just paid Bowness $3m a year and they've spent to the cap even this year amidst declining attendance. We know coaches have turned down the job before as well. Tochett was recently reported to have turned down the job 2 years ago. Berube went to Toronto for his interview but did a Zoom interview for the Jets. The Barry Trotz saga was two years ago.

They're not going to throw $6m+ at a coach. Mike Sullivan is the only reported coach over $5.5m. If your answer to "any coach would come" is by vastly overpaying for it then you're proving my point. Coaches don't sell tickets.

Blues fan here, coming in peace. Take my opinion for what its worth: a whole lot of nothing.

Jets have gone as far as they can on the current coaching/gm. The new hire won't help. The team needs a retool and a long talk with Helle. The team can make the playoffs and then falls flat. Team needs to bring in flesh blood upstairs that'll help them take the next step. The team is capable but not being driven hard enough when it counts the most. There's a lot of good here and they need to capitalize and invest on it.

Commodore really seems to have personal issues with a lot of guys. He talks about arrogance while posting something like this. If he received hard-handed coaching from Arniel with the Jackets then maybe it was simply a coach matching the player's type of energy. I'm holding my breath on whether this will work in the 'Peg or not, but it seems a vast majority of players who have played with or played under Arniel as a coach have a great amount of respect for him. He's like a younger version of Bones.

What we really need is new assistant coaches to fix our horrible PP/PK. Arniel will probably do alright if he coaches with his head instead of his gut.
Ask and you shall receive. Brad Lauer was terminates as assistant coach today.

Few things:

1. Mike Commodore was a minus 8 in 20 games under Arniel. He was unplayable so guess what? He didn't play.
2. That Jacket roster was so bad it almost defies belief how Mason and Garon had the numbers they did in goal.
3. This is Arniel's last crack at a head coaching job so if he is smart, he will look for the best assistants he can possibly get. Roster wouldn't even have to change much, just get better on special teams.
