Has anyone read the Wool trilogy? Just finished book 1 and I gotta say I’m a fan. Pretty cool sci-fi post apocalyptic thriller/mystery. Kept me guessing throughout. Apparently it’s a series on Apple + I’ll have to check it out.

Have you read this author’s Broken Empire series? Loved it and he managed to make a genuinely despicable protagonist likeable.

I have not, but I was able to buy all three books in the trilogy for $20 on Amazon, so I'll add them to my ever growing to be read list.

I read book one and I really really liked it. I'm pretty sure I have a lot more to read on the series I just haven't gotten to it yet. I watched the streaming series and I really really liked it but like a lot of books and material that is longer The show is more of a inspired by type thing. They do the content that I read justice. But on all like I said I really enjoyed the show I would definitely check it out for you.

I read all three about a decade ago now. I don't remember most of the specifics, but I really enjoyed reading them at the time. I'll have to look for an Apple+ free trial to check out the series. I've heard it's pretty good.

Agreed. That’s normally something that’s a dealbreaker for me but it didn’t bother me with this series.

I finished The Shadow of What Was Lost by James Islington and Nation by Pratchett this week.

Shadow was ... fine. Sort of a store-brand Sanderson. Interesting enough setting and magic, but the cast of characters was pretty big and they were all pretty bland. The story itself was actually pretty interesting, but it was a bit of a slog to get through. I may continue with the series if I can grab them on sale, but I'm in no rush to do so.

Nation was a delight. Pratchett said it was the finest book he ever wrote, and while I wouldn't place it at the very top, it's definitely in the conversation for the top 5-10. Most authors couldn't take such an stereotypical setting (shipwrecked white person meets indigenous people on a tropical island) and do it justice, but Pratchett isn't most authors. The more I think about it, the higher I'd place it in that 5-10 range. Read this book, full stop.

Wind and Truth will be the first Stormlight book I haven't done a series re-read for. Luckily the wiki has some pretty in-depth chapter summaries.

It's nice to see guys still reading. I read Dune (best trilogy ever), Foundation (except for the Mule there's zero characterization. Asimov was one of those old school science guys that thought it was unnecessary), and LotR (also poorly written. There are pages and pages of just descriptions of what things look like. The Jackson films are better) before SW: A New Hope came out.

As for Daisy Ridley, Episodes 7-9 were so bad I thought her face was the best thing in them.

As for the future of SW, the guy who wrote arguably the worst Marvel film ever Dark Phoenix, is writing and directing a trilogy. IMHO the franchise is dead except for Disney+.

Dude does some amazing post 2016 alternative “history” timeline shit. It’s hard to explain, but I’d easily put it up there with Clancys first book.
