I just finished Tombs and it was a delight, just like the first book. It's refreshing to read books that are a bit quieter and have smaller stakes than your usual fantasy stories. The fate of the world wasn't at stake, it was just about a girl who was taken from her parents and being forced into a role she wasn't suited for.The next one...Tombs of Atuan...has been on my re-read for enjoyment list for a long time. Very satisfying.
Also, just like the first book, I found several of the passages near the end quite comforting. Especially Ged helping Tenar come to terms with what she had been manipulated into doing.
Listen, Tenar. Heed me. You were the vessel of evil. The evil is poured out. It is done. It is buried in its own tomb. You were never made for cruelty and darkness; you were made to hold light, as a lamp burning holds and gives its light.
I know I said it before, but man do I wish I had read these 20 years ago. Teenage and early 20s SBA could have really used some of that wisdom.
