Nah, I misinterpreted Bandit's post.

Luke Schenn anyone?

I disagree, having a veteran paried with a young prospect, improves the prospects game. I think Colin Miller greatly benefited from playing with Schultz. I noticed a notiable difference in the whole defensive group when Schultz was playing and wasn't playing. I would expect to see McBain matched with Gravel (which was a paring in the first game) and possibly Schultz matched with Ebert (if he clears).

I still like Schultz in the system, I think he did a good job in the Anaheim series and proved he can be a short term depth option when injuries occur. It's good to have an experienced guy like that around.

What I don't like is that they already had to send Lintuniemi to the ECHL because of a crowded blueline, now they're adding both Cernak and Schultz? I don't want guys sitting around too much.

No issues keeping Schultz in the system. He was serviceable in the playoffs and like others have mentioned, he can act as a mentor (something I hadn't really thought of). So we give others a more legit shot, no major loss and it gives him a chance to improve his game. :)

Lintuniemi already was forced out to ECHL. Now you have veterans McBain, Schultz, LoVerde that are going to play. So where's the room for all the youth in Gravel, Ebert, MacDermid, Raine, Cernak, Leslie. Where are they all going to play? The whole point of the AHL is to get your prospects playing time to develop.

It seems, as of late, the Kings feel that the best way to develop young players is mixing them in with veteran players. And I agree with them. It's not just about getting playing time. It's also about learning to play the right way, having confidence in your game, and learning to win. I think that's why in the past couple seasons we seen them sign guys like Schultz, McBain, Bissonnette, Newbury, Budaj, Van der Gulik, and Cracknell. I feel that taking a some of your top prospects and playing them with a guy who has 200-400 games of NHL experience, will better help their games, then having a whole crew of rookies and 2nd year players playing together.

With all that said, I won't surprised to see Schutlz get claimed. I also won't be surprised if he clears. It's a 50/50 thing in my eyes.

As expected, Schultz cleared waivers this morning, so I suspect he will be assigned to ONT, which brings them up to 8 D at ONT. I would hope that Leslie gets some playing to soon.

I knew the most important thing for the off season was to sign Sekera. If that
happened, would be ok on D. If the Voynov thing was settled before July,
may have been able to sign him. Too bad.

Money wasn't an issue.

The Kings rumored offer, was in the EDM Oilers offer range. Sekera picked EDM.

Was it in the Oilers offer range including the movement clause? I'm thinking no

EDM is going to suck this year, while the Kings are still a cup contender (first two games notwithstanding). Sekera went after the money and apparently doesn't care about Cups, so **** him.

That's not a money issue, that's a (clause) issue.

I doubt the Kings offered a NTC,NMC. The poster above made it sound like Sekera wasn't signed due to a money issue. Money was not a problem (rumored)

Yeah, but come on Ron. McDonger's gonna make the Oilers and instant contender...

yeah he's a perfect #100D

in case Ds from #1 to #99 catch a bad case of the flu or something, count on good old Schultz to carry the load

I wouldn't mind Schultz in Ontario if it wasn't so crowded. I don't want him getting minutes of guys who need to be developed

I have to admit that I held my breath for large periods of time today hoping that Schultz would get claimed if only so Grandpaw would no longer have the option of playing him.

If Sutter had that much lover for Schultz, he wouldn't have been waived, twice now in Sutter's tenure.
