Scheifele's Dad has Passed Away

Sad.
When My father passed away from cancer and I definitely didn’t want to work that day I found out
I think it’s understandable if Schief doesn’t play tonite

Does anyone remember if martin st louis took a game off when his mother died during the playoffs?

Brendan Gallaghers mom passed away from cancer this season while Montreal was on their western Canadian road trip. Gallagher stayed with the team and kept playing, then when they were in Vancouver (his hometown) a few days later, the whole team went to visit his family. Gally then had a huge emotional 3 point night in their first game back in Montreal.

I wouldn't be surprised if scheifele plays tonight as a way to honour his dad and has a huge game.

I remember when that happened. I had to search to be sure, but he did play the next day. This might be too sudden for Schiefele and so it's all about how he feels about it

Tough news. I'm sure Scheifele has a lot of support, but he should absolutely take all the time he needs. Some things matter more than hockey or career.
My dad died when I was 36. I couldn’t imagine losing him any earlier.

There’s two type of people. Those that work through everything and those who need time off to process. I learned I am in the need time off to process camp because I couldn’t work for months afterwards. I didn’t read the rest of the messages before posting but anyone who’s thinking of criticizing him for missing games needs to pause and rethink life.

It sucks all around. I hope he takes all the time he needs and find his peace.

It's different for everyone. For some, playing the game might be the easy part in all this.

But it should be left up to him what he wants to to, and I'm sure he won't be pressured by anyone in the organization

Yup. Literally said as much. You never what you type you until it happens. This is major grief.
