FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The Stanley Cup sat on a table, bathed in light, as people -- most of the women in red, the men in dark suits with red ties -- gathered round. It was a chance for them to take a picture with the Cup, the trophy that many of them had worked their whole lives to win, that they had spent the summer celebrating, and that they will spend the upcoming season defending.

this thread is losing a bit of steam. i'd like to keep it going in perpetuity but with the new season starting today, this may be as good a way as any to close it.

I wanted to say something along the lines of I’ll forever be thankful for everything, couldn’t articulate it on the spot so I just said thank you but my fiance told him he’s the best captain we could ask for and he was very appreciative

It would always be that way. Then if we win a second one then it’s oh well you don’t have 3. And so on. I’ll never worry about that stuff. I was prepared and 100% convinced that winning one would never happen in my lifetime. It’s different from you’re starting youre zero and there’s no guarantee of even experiencing one. We finally reached the highest height. We did it. Somehow, someway, we did it. They can say whatever they want, this victory will never get old. I’ll forever be chilling and happy with this cup we earned. But of course that’d be great if there’s more to come

I think your fiance said it better than either of us could - I'd be struck mute, just basking in his presence. [sigh] Barky - my sweet, insanely talented marshmallow man...

There's a cute short when the team were given Barky balls (ahem) for golf during the off-season. Loved their reactions - particularly Ekblad refusing to use them saying that we must take care of Barky at all costs. God yes.
