The solution is to stop playing the Stanley Cup finals at the end of June. The Oilers won their first cup on May 19th. Same number of teams made the post season, same number of rounds as today. The only differences were the regular season was 80 games instead of 82 and the first round back then was a best of 5. They don’t need to be stretching the length of the season as long as they are.
