Ok hear me out. What if the league wants McDavid to get traded to another team to gain more exposure as the face of the NHL but needs him to win a cup for the team that drafted him first. They let EDM win one but force them to trade McDavid when his contract is up.
if it doesn't go your way it's "rigged" ......Gee where have we heard that before

If I'm the Oilers management, I'm calling the league and pestering them non-stop until they agree to switch the Cup final to some sort of aggregate goals system.
Aggregate goal system is bunk.
Each game is worth one game. Each game is, and should be, separate from the others.

A reminder of how much of hockey is mental. Being down 0-3 can make a team feel hopeless... or get them angry and determined.

McDavid and company had something to prove and - credit to them - went out and did exactly that. Florida remains the better team, but in hockey the better team can lose any game at any time.

(And a thank-you to those who believe the game was rigged or Florida lost on purpose. Your commitment to these kinds of comic book fantasies are a hoot!)
well said on the rigged fantasies.

And too bad the Oilers didn't come out and play like they had "something to prove" when the series was still winnable.

For what it is worth, all of our most putrid efforts have been our first crack at eliminating a team this run so far. Its like we expected the Oilers to roll over and die, then we got punched in the mouth.

Maurice better give them a tongue-lashing, and we come out angry next game. Humiliating effort tonight.
Oh, they’ll be angry without Mo saying a word. That was the old “look out Bob” style of defense on display last night. Oilers were flying, Panthers were not sharp, and Edmonton buried them. A good swift kick in the ass, that game was.

At least maybe all of the trolls will stop with the Oilers shouldn’t even be here crap.

Apparently a bunch of them flew families in for this one, so I don't think they were conceding anything. Probably a lack of focus, but the Oilers lacked focus in the previous games. It's a tough matchup for both teams, and if both are dialed in the rest of the way, it could go either way.
The owners flew a charter up of front office personnel and families, it was karma that they got waxed last night.
Oh, and the Oilers weren’t just gonna roll over, as some predicted.

Ekblad was absolutely horrible. Played like he knew nothing about defence.
Mikkola and Montour better but not much better.
Tkachuk over due for a game in the finals resembling last years play off Tkachuk

Florida had plenty of early chances to take the lead in this one, some posts, maybe a bad bounce or two, and some nice saves by Skinner kept that from happening. They should also almost just decline the PP opportunities at this point, Edmonton ends up gaining momentum from their PK.

The series has been closer than 3-1 would make it seem, however those wins count all the same and it's an uphill battle for the Oilers to get back into this. Florida gets 2 days to think about this loss, I'd expect them to come out flying in game 5.
It’s hockey, the game of crazy bounces and momentum swings. Every game could’ve turned if that one puck didn’t bounce right as it was about to be buried. Or if it doesn’t hit someone three feet wide and deflect right in to the net. Sometimes you ring it off the post and wide on an empty net. Every game has a bunch of woulda coulda shoulda moments.
Need a short memory and get back at it next game (win or lose).

lol this league is so fricken rigged

They want us to believe that Florida totally dominates the first 3 games and then somehow gives up a fu*king 8-1 loss on the night they could have won it all LOL

Whether it's the NHL running the show or the Panthers running the show, they're making sure that Florida wins this in their own home town rink

No way the Panthers completely bulldoze their way through the first 3 games and then lay an 8-1 egg in the Cup-winning game lol... wake up people.. it's embarassing to realise that all those fans in the stands are celebrating and losing their shit over an 8-1 victory all while the players coast on the ice and saying wow what a bunch of idiots, if only they knew what's really going with this league...

sorry to say but when it comes to sports and hundreds of millions of dollars on the line no way do those elite people in control let it come down to just luck... outside interference has and always will be a part of the game and not just hockey but in ALL sports.. history has many, many proven examples of corruption within the games in all sports so if it's happened once it will happen again so don't come up here and try to discount this with your tinfoil hat stories lol...

Your tinfoil hat seems to need adjustment.

FL didn’t bulldoze their way to first three wins...all were close games that could’ve easily went the other way

Walt Frazier wrote how much easier it is to shake off a blowout than a close game.
I guess you’re not as haunted by the “one great chance I missed” when you got smoked by 6 or 7 goals :dunno:

Credit to the Panthers, who not only have a truly great team, but have this snake-like mentality to dial in on the opposition mistakes
Oilers did the same last night, FL sloppier play than normal, Oilers pounced on every chance and buried them. They were flying around the Panthers last night.

How does this 8-1 win stand among other "slaughter games" in the past finals? What's the game and year in "this was the first seven goal win in the finals since x"?
