News Article: Sather Speaks: Lack of Puck Possession Had "A lot to do" with Torts' firing

What a contradicting, riddling old propagandist we have as a GM.

He never talks to the media about the team he runs, and when he finally does he sounds like a complete ass who talks in circles and thinks his **** doesnt stink.

So done with Slats. Regardless of the moves he's made, good / bad - im just sick of him at the helm. Go smoke a cigar in Banff. Take a hike.

I can only speak for myself, but I was extremely bohered with how we played under Torts, as Ive posted several times.

What Slats saying are just obvious facts

Why is this a shock to someone? Rangers do need to possess the puck more. Thats something Tort's system seriously lacked.

Sather is always on the defensive even when he gets softball questions lobbed at him. "...what makes you think that I wasn't observing things myself? I'm around all the time."

I can only imagine how he would react if one of our beat writers actually had the balls to ask him a tough question or hold him accountable.

Good job by Slats. He's got eyes and ears all over the place.

He's forgotten more than some of you will ever know.

Torts has been in NY for nearly 5 seasons yet some of you arm chair GMs act as if we
go through coaches every season.

Have you ever seen a GM in any sport give anything other than cliches during a presser about firing a coach?

Sather has a lot of faults, but this is not one of them.

Six coaches in 13 seasons is not alot??

6 in 13, or 1 every 2 and touch seasons, close enough....

Sather is a Sith Lord disguised as a grumpy, cigar chomping, harmless old man. A few words out of his mouth and people need to be peeled off the ceiling. It's amazing how he does it.

I can't wait for Sather to step down. But if Gorton miraculously isn't hired for the position then I will jump off the ****ing freedom tower.

Gorton almost single handedly made the Bruins of today in a VERY short period of time. He drafted Kessel, Lucic, and Marchand, signed Chara and Savard, and traded a scrub in Raycroft for Rask... all in ONE year!!!!

I believe Gorton worked his magic with the Gaborik for Brassard, Moore, and Dorsett trade too when Sather was ill, no?

Outrageous that this guy is not the GM right now.

im worried that if another GM gets fired soon and Gorton gets some consideration to replace that GM before NYR has the chance to replace Sather.. :help: i can see that happening... i dont think Sather will retire or step down... i bet he will stay as Rangers GM until he passes away..

I don't care why Torts was fired - just glad it happened. But what makes the happiest is that Sather realizes that his system was flawed! Throwing the puck off the boards and giving up possession all game long is a losing gameplan. Giving up the blue line and playing a 3 goalie system is futile.

if you follow me on twitter or even listen to mouths radio show you know i broke Tort's being fired one week before it happened. Torts and Sather have been at each other personally behind the scenes for a few weeks and the coach was attacking sather and lack of personnel .. Sather is so full of sh## his eyes are brown

I recall you saying this but how does this make Sather a liar?

I believe they've been on shakey ground for a while and Torts public attack at Sather certainly didn't help

Ok, while that might be true...but if you see these problems within the team, why give Tortorella an extension then?

The season was a minute long. Coaches hardly operate in a lame duck environment. So he got locked up early. We have huge, huge contract issues on the table including McD and Lundqvist. Plus a draft, a reduced cap, possible buyouts. All during a shortened summer. Is that good enough for "Why?". I could care less if Sather cleared a potential task prematurely at the expense of Dolan's savings.
