Come on now. You know better than that. This isn't even a Boston/Buffalo thing. It was a terrible call. Life goes on. I'm sure you guys have had your share of terrible calls go against you this year as well. Maybe not as bad as this one but that's NHL reffing for you and we all suffer in the end.

Good call. :)

That doesn't mean the 3rd period chance was the right call. I'd have rather they given McGinn the penalty shot against Tuukka anyways.

Right call, my ass. Marchand blatantly slashed Ristolainen's stick right out of his hands. He should've been the one penalized!

Slashing means that there wasn't an attempt to play the puck. Marchand knocked Ristos' stick out of his hands, but it because he undercut Risto's stick while making a move while controlling the puck. Definitely not slashing.

At most... Maybe 2 mins interference? That's the only possible penalty I saw. And that wouldn't even have been a good call.

Brodz tried to hack Dumbas arm off and broke his stick during the shot. Not sure what the problem is

It was Upshall, he got all stick, no arm, and regardless you can't score a goal with a broken stick.

Not to mention, if there's a delayed penalty and the team scores, they don't get a full powerplay after it.

Refs gave the Wild a freebie and a powerplay.

Theory on the Marchand penalty shot: referee awarded the penalty shot because he mistakenly thought Risto threw his stick before giving Marchand a two handed push, then was stuck with his bad call.

He had a breakaway clear path to the net and had his scoring chance negated by Risto with a hold, just because they messed up the PS for Buffalo in the third doesn't mean Marchand's wasn't legit.

There was no hold, watch the replay. Risto pushed Marchand forward from behind after losing his stick. You're out of your mind if you think it was the right call.

Then I would ask why the hell would Gorges throwing his stick on the bench award a penalty shot to Boston? ;)

I do think it was a pretty soft penalty shot call, but after Risto loses his stick it appears as if he grabs Marchands Jersey by his hip as he beats him prior to the push.

Sorry I changed my post - had a brain fart, it was Risto not Gorges

Penalty shots are usually called for stick throwing was to save a goal - my thinking is that this is was the ref through he saw.

Because otherwise I can't even begin to explain the thinking behind such a stupid call

Wrong call says the Sabres fan.

We could keep going in an endless loop.

The replay clearly shows no hold, no jersey grab. It was a push. Wrong call by the ref, same as the McGinn call, wrong call.

But, there is a positive here, the Sabres are showing great signs of compete. Win or lose, they're keeping games tight, making them fun to watch, which is a win for all us fans.

Jack edwards just tweeted it was a horrible call. I am dumb and don't know how to embed but even the biggest Bruins homer ever thinks it was a bad call.

He clearly grabbed Marchand's jersey with a free hand while he was on a breakaway. It prevented his scoring chance. I don't know how that's not a penalty shot. I'm not saying that Buffalo shouldn't have had a penalty shot in the third. I definitely think they should have.

Note: I may live here but I'm definitely not a Sabres fan. I'm a bigger follower of Western Conf, so I don't have a dog in this hunt.

Risto deliberately put his gloves together to make the push - made it clear that he was pushing and not grabbing. Too bad the ref called what he thought he saw, and not what he could possibly have seen.

He didn't grab his jersey, he pushed him forward. The replay is very clear.

Actually, the poke check prevented the scoring chance.

Come on man, that is embarrassing to try and pretend it was the right call. Your own homer announcer called it a terrible call. I get it, you're happy your team won, but don't defend an atrocious call. Eventually it will hit your team if these terrible calls keep happening. That was the worst officiated game of the year.

When did Upshall start wearing #28?

Yeah, I guess I don't know how delayed penalties work if its a penalty that occurs during the shot so maybe.

Maybe a make up call for the Koivu "elbow"?

Brodz tried to hack Dumbas arm off and broke his stick during the shot. Not sure what the problem is

1. It wasn't even Brodziak.
2. He broke his stick (yes, it's a penalty which Upshall still had to serve after the goal)
3. When Hitchcock asked why the goal still counted the ref told him it was because he broke it during the shot. (So why was it a penalty).

I have no problem with calling it a penalty or a goal. The rules clearly say that it shouldn't be both. If you guys are gonna call yourself the "State of Hockey" you should probably learn the rules :help:
