Belmont (New York):
Mike Smith will be suspended four riding days: May 17, 18, 19, and 20 for a riding infraction Sunday at Santa Anita in race 8. However, he can postpone one day of that suspension which includes the May 19 Preakness and he will ride Justify barring any unforeseen circumstances. The official statement by the stewards was "for failure to maintain a straight course and causing interference in the stretch"
He was also suspended in March for his ride on McKinzie.

Belmont (New York):
- Javier Castellano has failed to find the winner's circle in his last 27 mounts after not winning with five starts today.
- Close but no cigar. My theory about Joel Rosario -- if he wins early, he will win again -- failed today. He won the opener but came in second his other two starts. Still, a 3 1-2-0 day isn't bad when the 11-to-1 finishes second in a dead heat.
- Opened its brief meet today.
- Race 3: Top three finishers each separated by a neck.
- Brian Hernandez, Jr., mentioned a few times as not only capable and underappreciated at times but an intuitive jockey, won four times including the natural hat trick to conclude the card. He won for four trainers. Among the wins, one paid $69.00.
- Tyler Gaffalione won three times. He was 8 3-1-3 today. He has been in the money in 13 of his most recent 17 starts.
- What a wild today for payouts.
- Race 2: A 34-1 shot won and paid $70.40 ridden by 18-year-old bug Romero Ramsay who won for the first time.
- Race 7: A 74-to-1 shot won and paid $151.40. The $2 exacta paid in excess of $1,600. The $.50 tri was over $5,500. The $.10 super was an impressive $4,600.
- Carlo Vaccarezza! The winning trainer and restauranteur. Paid an even $25.00. The $.50 Pick 3 paid over $1,700. Buy that rider a beverage tonight and get that horse his favorite snack. Rail rider for sure.
- Race 10: The finale! Someone busted the vault. The $.20 Pick 6 paid $1,214,280.62. The $.50 Pick 5 was over $25,000. The $.50 Pick 4 over $13,000. The winning ticket was played in the state of Maine, the second time this year a large winning ticket was nailed in the state. The 2, 5, 10, 11 and 12 were all singled by bettors and any of those horses winning the finale would have guaranteed a colossal jackpot for that person. Alas, #12 was the lucky number for that Maine handicapper.
