Sarnia Sting 2024 25 Season Thread Part Iii

With another signing or two from one or both of the Junior A loop or USHL leagues and a first round import pick there is going to be a few trades before the season begins. Could even see guys that play on our third line (that aren’t 4th line type of players) get bumped out for players the sting feel are upgrades upgrades in the top 9. Same goes for defence. Things could get very interesting. A lot of people we think are safe might not be.

Can see kostuch asking for a trade, maybe to a team like Oshawa who is losing a bunch of players up front? Or kingston but we don’t have any picks for him.

Poor kid just unfortunate about him. Expected him to do great things. Injuries suck.

While that could happen, I also think staying might be best for him. Be around everyone who's been there for him, everyone knows him and what's happened.

Figuring out how to play with any loss of eye sight is a massive adjustment let alone new team, systems, teammates to go with it.

He did an interview at the end of the yr & said he had to have a couple minor procedures this summer. Both to improve his vision.

He's been back on the ice training, working out etc which is great.

We'll likely never know unless he says how much he lost & that's totally up to him & his family. But seems like he can see at least a bit out of the injured eye.

thats to bad feel for the kid. I really lked him was kind of disappointed when the ctroops traded him

Sting announce the equipment manager, athletic therapist & goalie coach are all being let go/not brought back.

Obviously after such a let down of a season people need to be held accountable & clearly it needs to be those 3 positions!

Im appalled Jeffries is still employed by this team. Truly.

As for the 3 I can't really speak to equipment manager/trainer. They seemed solid, but maybe "better" options are available.

I'm surprised Palazeese got let go. They constantly talked about how good he was for them, how much they relied on him etc. I'm sure part of it is they like Kaden Fulcher as goalie coach, but that might be a decent loss for us.

Keep the best players available, trade the rest. If he’s not the best available in the top 9 he should go elsewhere maybe get more playing time.

Palazeese has a goalie clinic in the GTA and probably has offers closer to that area, he probably asked for a raise since he’s away from home and the sting said no we have a cheaper option lol, Fulcher is local so just like the coaches they will get the local guys that are cheaper whether they are best for the position or not. Not sure why they would let the equipment manager go, not like he’s going to have an effect on the on ice production. They will probably bring in a volunteer for that position to save money 😂

Going to the Bulldogs as the director of goaltending sounds like a promotion.

Fulcher at least was playing pro hockey very recently. Has his own goalie school now too, although just starting it really.

So I can why they'd like him if he's the new full time goalie coach.

Their equipment manager was rather young (25-30) I think so maybe they want someone a bit older or someone with more experience.

Disappointing the ppl who should be moved on from are still here.

Saw a rumour on X. That apparently NIA 1st rounder Ryerson Edgar is asking for a trade. He apparently has 3 teams he wants to go to one of them being LDN. Consider me shocked on that one. It would be insane if we see an OHL 1st rounder get traded to LDN in 3 of the last 4 years. Would also be insane to see LDN and NIA make yet another trade. Also hope that maybe we're one of the other teams Edgar wants to go to.

I wonder how many championships LDN would have if the OHL didn't stack their team year after year. I found it hilarious when the memorial cup did a segment on LDN's fantastic drafting and scouting process finding all these studs so late lol ....At a certain point this is just silliness.. that point was years ago but LDN is the leagues golden child..... Sit the kid... seriously. The OHL is probably the only league in the world that allows this to happen. If it was beneficial to Owen Sound, Sarnia or Sudbury and hurt LDN the league would have put a stop to it years ago.

With Sarnia's timeline I don't see them targeting a 16 yr old. Especially with it costing usually a handful of 2nds and 3rds.

Also as u said he wants a certain group of teams. So... London.. Kitchener.. Oshawa.. Windsor.. before us.

Biggest fan bases. Shocking.

If that’s his goal it shouldn’t be a big shock to see him go to London.

That makes some sense why Kingston didn’t pick him 9th overall

If I’m Niagara, why in the world do I care that he wants to play for London? Call his bluff. None of the top 16 year olds want to play in the USHL/BCHL/Junior A anymore now that the rules changed. They want to play in the CHL. Don’t want to play for Niagara? Fine. Go off and play in some bfe town in Iowa with no exposure.

I posted this in the Niagara thread but IF Edgar does want to be traded to 1 of 3 teams and truly won’t commit otherwise it’s pretty clear why Niagara would trade him.

Dickinson (4th overall) 3x2nd 3x3rd 1x5th
Henry Brzust (22nd overall) 2x2nd 1x3rd

Based on those returns for players who wanted to play for another team, Edgar as a 10th overall pick would net something like 3x2nd + 1x3rd or 2x2nd + 3x3rd. Lots of Ifs but all things being equal you’d rather have the additional 4 or 5 picks if you aren’t getting the player anyway. As of now London has 0 2nds in the next 3 years and only has a 2026 3rd and 2x2028 3rds so wouldn’t be able to swing it anyway.

the 'source' also said that this would be the first year that not every 1st round pick has signed to play in the ohl, so careful with that one.

Reesor Edgar for 18/19 year old 4th liner and a 5th round pick (also abunch of under the table cash). Sounds like the usual deals between those two lol.

What about Logan Hawery and a 3rd or 4th round pick.

There is an article in the Observer about rookie camp. Still no times posted. But Seca says every draft pick from this year's draft and last year's draft will be there plus some free agents. Seca also said they'll be treating rookie camp almost like regular camp in terms of wanting the kids to be competitive.

Rookie camp roster is out. Some great names to see.

Kase Kamzik (Miami commit)
Easton Walos (BCHL)
Gunner Gullstrand (USHL pick)
Sarvir Jaworski (USHL pick)
Brayden Hughes (USHL pick)

All there.

No Aucoin, but he was in Sarnia last week practicing with a few players so wouldn't worry about that. Must be busy or banged up.

Only players not there from last 2 drafts is Bogas & Trozzo.

Easton Walos is a fun name to see. He was pretty highly touted but showed ncaa interest so he fell last yr. 18 points in 48 BCHL games playing L4 as a 16 yr old. He's also grown from 5'7" to 5'11". Super skilled F.

Didn't notice one of the free agents, Joseph Sinclair is also NCAA committed. Bowling Green for 26-27.

Coming off a big yr in the OJHL with 21G/40A.

Another name to watch.

Mason Kim is intriguing too. 29G/36A in 55GP with Aurora. Smaller player, but clearly very skilled.

This camp might be way more intense, skilled than usual.

I just find it weird how they bring all these kids to camp and put them on the ice from 9-4 playing 30minute games then send them home, not a lot of time to give all these kids a good look. Like they have a day for orientation and the team going over expectations etc. and a day of short games. Why don’t they make it a full weekend, have a day for meeting the coaches and staff and going over things, a day of practises and then a day for games then send the kids home Saturday night /Sunday morning.
