Sarnia Sting 2024 25 Season Thread Part Iii

Goalies were all over the map, obviously there was no clear cut number 1,2,3 group. Rather they are all decent and pretty close talent wise. Healy might have fell because he had a terrible OHL cup, save percentage was like .845 in 4 games, but he probably had to play against better teams. Kamzik would be nice to get.
Guys on neutral zone said skating was Kamziks biggest issue last yr but it took a pretty big jump this season as did his physical play. Called him a power forward who attacks the net mostly.

Adding him, Lammens & Aucoin sure would make this team significantly bigger. Not to mention if Sewell pushes for a spot or sees game action occasionally.

The way this team plays might be awfully different with all this size coming. Especially if any of their U17s grow. Imagine if Edwards or Di Iorio added an inch or two to get to 6'2/6'3.. Sheesh! Make them potentially even more lethal.

This is from Mark Seidel on Twitter. Former NHL scout & worked for Barrie until last year.

Ran down his favorite picks for each team and this is what he had to say for Sarnia.

I know we weren't as thrilled with Lammens as Delisle or Wycisk, but he had him ranked #1! I said the other day the neutral zone guys also discussed him being their #1 prospect.

So we might be downplaying him just a little because we wanted someone else. Definitely look forward to seeing him live.

Can't wait to see Aucoin play too. Looks and sounds like maybe the most promising Dman we've picked since Chychrun.

also give karimov more ice time, he can be a bull at times loves being around the net, just get in his head to do that more consistently, he’s a strong kid.

I’m most excited about Aucoin, but ya some guys had Lammens at #1 others had him around #8-#10 depends what the scouts prefer in a player type. I think he will be a good fit. Just hope the coaches can develop them and use them properly that’s all I care about.

Are we Hoping Letang can Coach and develop these players now? Hahaha how soon we forget.
My concern is how far Di iorio and Edward's will fall off in second year like Brown did, hurt, barr bridgewater, etc.
Let's hope new owners don't wait too long when see concerns early with players.
Lammens is a great pick IMO we need grit, size, and a real Leader with qualities the sting behold. Think he will be the Clattenburg of the league in 2 years very impactful with the proper direction (my concern as always) the good news is Aucoin, if he comes adrian will have microscope on Letang and staff making sure he likes what he sees if not I'm sure moves will be made at top. I really like this group of picks. DS dropped the ball with Bodin, Aucoin is that player we hoped Bodin would be. Think team looking back on track for 2026-27 push.
Think Fischer gets traded in Off season and Young goes at Deadline for some key peices for 26-27 also think a peice upfront doesn't come back, heads to NCAA. But I think things look on track for this season pushing for 5th and all in 2026. Youngest team in the league again.

Obviously Seca said Aucoin was coming, but if there were any doubt Aucoin's agent was on the Jeff Marek show & doubled down on it.

Applauded Seca/Sarnia on getting him at 26 & said look forward to him being in the OHL this next season.

And while it was in a joking matter sort of, it's nice to hear him say when he's 18 or 19 for Sarnia. If he was one of those kids thinking OHL for 2 then NCAA he probably wouldn't say it like that.

Can't wait to see him play honestly. Even more so than some of our 1st round picks over the years.

For what its worth Caesars just got done their nationals tournament losing in the semis... gotta think they played a brutal schedule participating in every big tournament then the OHL cup and Nationals but I like it. On the negative side Sarvir Jaworski didn't record a single point the entire tournament- 5 games. Not what you'd expect when you heard the OHL scout talk about him during the draft lol. Gunner Gullstrand had a better tourney with 4 pts in 5 games... Aucoin played... Interesting Kase Kamzik didn't play a game for Pittsburgh...Is he injured?

Yah those kids gotta be exhausted lol. Play 5 games in 5 days after just playing in the OHL cup & going far. Definitely with Sarvir did better, but who knows how he played, or if hes a bit banged up by this point. I wish we heard Seca speak on Gullstrand.

Kamzik is a yr older (08) so he probably wasn't eligible for the tournament right? U15 only

No I also checked the u16 nationals page and he was listed as 0 games played for Pitt.

CHL is moving to 3 imports for the 2025-2026 season.

Makes the draft even bigger. If you somehow land 3 impactful imports it could be huge for your team.

Even more a reason to take a goalie this year IMO.

Yah usually it's saved for sure fire HOFer haha.

But still a nice gesture. Tells u he was very respected.
Tom wilson got the caps to do it, he has battled with Martin a few times and he knows that Martin was far more than just a scrapper in the league. He was part of one of the most effective and pain in the ass 4th lines in the league for many years. Crowd cheered because he is a fan favourite in Long Island. Good career that was built off hard work and nothing else, and it all started in sarnia.

Lmao my god we are building the WALL on D with these kids. Holy smokes.

Funny enough I was told he was going 1st overall earlier. From a OJHL scout "big, good skater, heavy shot, smart. All the tools. Can definitely play OHL minutes"

So u think they identified size as an issue?

Lammens 6'1"
Aucoin 6'3"
Sewell 6'6"
Kamzik 6'2"

And now Romain 6'5"

This team could look and play awfully different next season if these kids make the team (ik Sewell is likely in Jr B)

As they always do Sarnia takes a goalie. Patrick Darolfi. 6'0".

One day we'll draft some 6'4", 6''5" goalie! But for now it's just Dmen lol.

this is the struggle when all you (and not you, just the general you) is base things off the puck preps public facing list. they do not value the compete level of players for whatever reason.

I think part of the "issue" is not many of the scouting services make their rankings or player reports available for free/tweet them out.

Which is totally fine & they need to make their money to make it worthwhile, but when you only have 1or2 services really putting out public lists, rankings, reports it's hard to agree or disagree as fans who don't really watch the kids play throughout the yr like yourself & some of the others in the draft thread.

Your last point is definitely bang on. Not even just an OHL issue either you see some of the people who work for the athletic or TSN/sportsnet not value heart/effort at all & they totally miss the boat on guys that become big time players because they don't have elite skating or elite skill like a smaller player does, but that player doesn't have as much heart/effort in their game.

I've heard some good things on Romain from people who've seen him this year. Sounds like he took a pretty big step this season especially in his skating. Another huge kid at 6'5. Been told he moves it well, smart player with a heavy shot. Could up his physical play at his size. Guys I spoke to felt pretty confident he can step into the OHL next season.

Gotta say I love how Sarnia attacked these drafts. They have not only replenished the D pipeline they've stacked it up with HUGE kids with a lot of potential. Multiple being right-handed too which isn't always easy to find. Now they have

Sewell (LD) - 6'6"
Romain (RD) - 6'5"
Aucoin (RD) - 6'3"
Willard (RD) - 6'3"

Definitely long way to go before we can determine if they hit on the picks & bigger kids sometimes take more time, but from a day 1 POV I love it. If they develop these kids properly what a nightmare they could be to go against for opposing teams. we saw it with Mast, Del Mastro, Dillingham how well they simply shut it down on most teams (except that green team) with their size, length, reach, etc.

Fischer should be a great mentor/leader for Aucoin & if Sewell or Romain make the team them too because he was once the tall, lanky, skinny kid with high upside that needed development. He speaks glowingly about Del Mastro, Mast, Dillingham all the time so hopefully he teaches these guys like they taught him.

Forwards are looking strong for years to come & now the defence has some serious potential in the coming years. Now they gotta find themselves a true #1 goalie for the 26-27 // 27-28 seasons.

It would be nice to see 2 of 4 play upcoming season . 2016 draft they drafted Ethan Lavallee 4th round , 79 overall . Huge kid 6'7 , never played a game in OHL. Same draft , 4th round Sting chose Mattias Samuelsson 6'4 , he never showed up

Fischer-Young
Hurt-Aucoin
O'Brien-Romain

Could be a fun Dcore to watch! Some skating ability, some serious size & some offensive firepower.

But gotta see how Romain looks vs OHL guys. Sewell, Willard likely start down a level. Sewell better chance to make it but they said they wanna take it slow with him.
