Sarnia Sting 2024 25 Season Thread Part Iii

Theres just so much uncertainty looking ahead 3 seasons for me to look at that season as a for sure contending year.. Does anyone leave for NCAA (IE: Brown, Edwards, DI Iorio), does Kostuch return to play & get back on an upward trajectory? Any big trades the yr prior involving young players? Do Simpson, Lammens, Jaworksi develop well?

Say we are in a perfect world- Brown improves but not enough to be signed by his OA yr, Kostuch is healthy & playing well, 17/81 stay until they leave for pro, Lammens, Aucoin, Sewell become studs. The roster projects as

F

20 - 19 - 18
Brown-Edwards-Lammens

20 - 19 - 19
Kostuch-Di Iorio-Simpson

18-19
Jaworksi-Import-2026 1st rounder

19
???-Chamberlain-???

D

20-18
Hurt-Aucoin

18
Sewell-Import

20
Barr?-2027 1st rounder

G

???
19
Grovestine?
19
Osipenko?

This roster would be solid, but things would definitely have to go right in a ton of ways with nobody big leaving for NCAA, guys developing well etc. Because if one of Sewell or Aucoin don't pan out the defence would need a ton of work. If Kostuch cant return or is not what he was that's a big hole, or if Lammens or Simpson don't become what they hope they could be very weak at RW + we have no obvious goalie of the future.

They hit big on both imports, make a couple good trades, draft well & it could be a promising year, but not as promising as the year prior IMO with hopefully Beamish, Manza, Karimov all here still.

I hope during those periods the buzz are good enough where they don't need to blow their entire future like we just saw happen... Get a great core and add bits and pieces along the way rather than go for the hero move which never seems to work in this league.
If I were GM (we'd be screwed!! lol) id take an 18 yr old import goalie this yr who's our starter in 25-26 & 26-27. Gotta get quality goaltending.

Flip Bridgewater or Barr (whoever they are lower on) for a Campbell type return (4th + 6th was it?) if possible during training camp.

If they are mid pack next TDL i'd shop Fischer for a really promising young Dman who's 16 or 17 that can help fill his shoes & grow with Aucoin, Sewell, Hurt. Shop Young for 3-4 picks to add some ammo.

Try & find one of those under the radar kids who's 17or18 & needs a fresh start (Ritchie, Sikic types) who fits the core & maybe becomes a good complimentary piece to our hopeful stars.

Have a serious convo with Manza, Beamish on their plans. If they plan on leaving after the season try & flip them as rentals to add some extra picks as holding onto them simply wouldn't be worth it. If not great F looks stacked in 26-27.

If all that happened no doubt the team would go from hopeful RD1 challenger to out in 5-6 games probably, but it would add significant pieces/ammo to the 26-27 team & help add pieces to the 27-28 team, too.

That’s why if you trade Fischer and young for a boat load of picks, you can use those picks to add complimentary players and not have to deal the picks they have currently. Keeps their cupboard intact for the future. If you don’t trade them you will have to use all your current picks to bring in 2 guys or so and your cupboard will be empty. I think the core will be good enough they won’t have to spend a lot anyways just have to add some complimentary peices to improve the depth/secondary scoring or add a certain type of player they think will help in playoffs like a backup goalie or shutdown defenceman, good third liner etc. we will know by the trade deadline if our core is going to be good enough to contend the following year.

I wouldn’t even consider looking 3 seasons from now, there will be two drafts, two import drafts, so many trades, some guys coming over from the states, the roster will probably look way different than that. Also this NCAA stuff I wouldn’t look too into either, every team in the league will have to deal with it. All you can do is develope kids properly and try to keep them happy, with our coach now that’s unlikely to happen lol. I think if the players are producing offensively or in a positive way and the team is winning and the following year they know the team will contend or be close to it they will most likely stay, they would be foolish to leave if you ask me. NCAA isn’t going anywhere you can leave as an OA or even play your OA year and go to NCAA after.

Soooo are we gonna get anything from Seca??? Observer hasn't put anything out. Sting website didn't even put out a day 2 draft photo of all the picks like the usually do.

LIke C'mon

Didn't notice yesterday, but Sarnia might've gotten a little steal in the 8th round with Myles Dunn. Only 5'10", but the Scout had him ranked 48th, PDA had him 86th & the neutral zone said they were quite surprised he slid so far.

Hard nosed, physical winger with a really good shot.

21G/17A in 30GP for Elgin. Scored 7G/2A in 8 playoff games, too.

Might be someone to follow next yr wherever they send him. Wish Him, Sewell, Healy, Willard all went to the Legionnaires but that relationship seems rough. Just love how LDN does it with a bunch of guys playing together, gaining chemistry w/the Nationals.

I think it will be Monday, observer doesn’t usually put out new articles on Sunday. That’s their day off I believe. Would of thought they could’ve posted something on the Stings social media

Legionaries have been bad for quite awhile, they definitely don’t trust the coaches, send abunch to strathroy, Sewell and dunn could go there. I believe there is a 2 or 3 player limit for 16 years olds in that league.

Henry Mews leaves Sudbury for Michigan. They spent a lot on 30 games & no playoff wins.... Rough.

Biggest player I've seen leave for NCAA so far that isn't an OA.

In past years they are usually on the ball. Get it out quick. Seeing the local networks for everyone else do it which is frustrating haha.

Yah, pretty bad on the Sting side not to put out an article at the very least of all their selections.

You gotta feel like Buzz wanted Jackman there... Seca didn't seem as enthused with Jawroski... I wonder if Jackman will report to Owen Sound.... The scout talking on the draft said he was very skilled so not a bad snag for the buzz... I would have preferred Jackman tho... looks like Legwand still has some major pull..... I don't know if im a fan of going heavy American but who knows.
I'm hearing Jackman is coming

Wainwright would be a loss for sure I wouldn’t say a huge loss tho. I personally think he’s overrated he try’s hard and he’s fast, but his skills are limited and he doesn’t have great offensive vision or creativity, he does at times but for a 19 year old playing as much as he does you want more than 40 points from him. Means our 18 and 17 years old with higher ceilings get more ice time and powerplay time.

That would be a huge blow if that happens.
really? yah it kinda does suck but I was very disappointed his his play this year... He got all the minutes and opportunity in the world and he was very underwhelming ... possibly could have had some trade value tho.

Ya, sucks a bit but I'm with Dave, he really didn't play that well. Was expecting more but he wasn't a high draft pick so I guess he had a bit of value for us at where he was drafted. Best of luck to him

Hopefully he commits but its for 26-27 season. On top of wanting him back with us I also think it's better for his development to play here one more season. I'm a big Wainwright fan, but gotta be real on a contender he's a 3rd line player in the OHL.

Here? He gets to play top-6, PP, PK, late game etc. Probably had the most ice time per game of our Fs, definitely top 3. In NCAA he'd be lucky to play 4th line unless he went to a school that isn't overly into hockey/doesnt recruit big time players. Christ guys like Humphreys, Powell (NHL drafted players) left because they weren't getting good minutes & are doing great in the O.

Obviously for him he could think will I get this same offer a year from now if I have a terrible season? but it aint like Filak, Doucette had huge seasons as OAs and they still got commitments so he should be more than fine if he's already getting interest. Heck with a big OA yr maybe a bigger, better school comes calling.

But if he wants to go now all power to him. It would hurt no doubt. Hes our only vet F lol. Elite speed, good 2way, great on PK. But it wouldn't be a crippling loss. Odds are they could sign Kosiba/Jette to replace his production, if not better it, or maybe it opens up a spot for one of their "flyers" in Gullstrand, Kamzik from this past weekend.

One more avenue for a potential goalie is the U18 Draft which is usually the Wednesday following the draft. We've gotten Thornton & Surzycia in it. The goalie Windsor took last yr (Newlove) many on WSR board think he is more than OHL ready & is better than what they got now. SBY got their starter of the last 2 seasons in this draft, too.

If there isn't one of that caliber ill be intrigued to see what position they go. It isn't the best draft, but top 5 there's some legit kids sometimes as we just saw with Kapagerdis who got us 2nd + 3rd.

Another D would only deepen that position for them & if hes legit make it easier to flip Fischer/Young, if its a legit F could help replace Wainwright if he does leave, or Kostuch if he's unable to return.

Hopefully they can find another gem in it!

Finally got an article about the draft.

Like he said Friday, they are very, very excited with the upside of Aucoin & Sewell. Sewell is still growing lol and is a hair below 6'6". Who's the biggest Sting player ever ? Bet @SarniaStingFan know haha.

Willard they also see some real upside with saying he didnt start playing until post-covid & his improvement throughout this season was incredible.

While we were slightly disappointed with not taking a goalie, Seca says Healy was their #2 ranked goalie & they think it was "off the charts" value getting him in the 6th. They have a lot of faith in Palazeese.

Most intriguing part is on Kase Kamzik. Who's the 2008 born American committed to Miami for 26-27. Seca said "we know he has interest in coming to our league, we've met with him. Big body, skates well, & looks like a kid who's got all the tools to be an NHL pick if it all comes together".

Was hoping he'd touch on Gullstrand & what his interests are, but he didn't come up.

The upside of their top 5 picks is definitely very exciting. At the same time it's a very raw group that needs proper, good development to become what they hope they'll be. I like that they are gonna take it slow with Sewell.

Clearly by multiple goalies going before Reznik the teams goalie rankings were much different than online services. The Scout, PDA & neutral zone all did say Healy is a good goalie & had him ranked higher than the 6th though. Let's hope he can become something in net.

Kamzik is very interesting. Certainly sounds like he might be coming saying he has interest in joining the league & that they've met with him. If he is that makes predicting the roster even harder lol. While he'd be a rookie he'd be a yr older at 17. Sounds like a decent player with some upside. Would add even more size as hes 6'2".

Hopefully they announce rookie camp is somewhat soon & see who's all there including guys from last yr

Goalies were all over the map, obviously there was no clear cut number 1,2,3 group. Rather they are all decent and pretty close talent wise. Healy might have fell because he had a terrible OHL cup, save percentage was like .845 in 4 games, but he probably had to play against better teams. Kamzik would be nice to get.
