Sarnia Sting 2024 25 Season Thread Part Iii

Lammans is sam Bennett today. Not a front line player but a unicorn who if he’s your 3/4th best forward and plays like a heavy promise with heavy sskill, you love him. I would take him ahead of Murata all day, I would take Deslile but I get what Sarnia is trying to do assuming unit ends up being hammers.

It’s mimicking Florida a bit with Barkov and Bennett down the middle with DiLorio and lammers. lammers will be a point a game guy at 19 and most online twitter scouts who want soft skill will hate the pick, he’s probably a 3rd round pick on those lists because he’s not 5’7 and doesn’t dangle pilons in Practice as well, but he’s so hard and physical and those player types are so hard to find
Similar to Jack Nesbitt?

Where do you guys sit on them taking 2008 born americans? Been hearing some teams might take em fairly high. Not sure Sarnia is one of them, but Seca said they are gonna take some swings so they might be.

Most of them would likely be committed for the 27-28 season. So you'd get 2 seasons out of them as 17 & 18 year olds which is a bit more enticing as they'd step in right away & be good players opposed to at 16 where u work them in slowly.

Also works with Sarnia's timeline as they wanna be good 25-26 & comepte in 26-27.

Flip side is you'd be passing on kids who would be here until they are 19-20, but might not be as impactful the next 2 seasons.

imo draft the dudes who will wanna be here for the long haul. I hate modern hockey where guys are always changing teams. I think it's pathetic. Stay away from those guys who are always looking for the next best thing. Just my opinion tho.

It's tough because I think it could start to get crazy. These NCAA teams can offer NIL money that CHL teams simply cant match. Like after next yr Michigan or boston college could come knocking on Edwards door or Di Iorio's & offer crazy money that will be incredibly hard to pass up.

Already rumours with Misa or Martone getting substantial offers that they may take for 1 season.

The league in general might become more of a 17/18 yr old league because it'll be a risk to build your team for when your superstars are 19 because they could be leaving.

What scares me is this could make the league even more lopsided. London, Kitchener will be way more successful at keeping high end kids while the bottom half teams are way more likely to have great players leave them for college.

But I see what ur saying. If possible they should always target the kids who will be good & be here 4-5 seasons.

yeah man I think Michigan just pulled one of those guys... I think this new rule is going to be very bad for the CHL.... CHL needs to counteract this rule somehow. I'm not sure how they do it tho. CHL simply cannot become a feeder league for the NCAA.

You definitely see what they are going for. Edwards, Di Iorio are the superstars who put up huge numbers. Hopeful Brown is a good PT getter. Lammens brings an element they don't have at all & could be a perfect with them & hopefully thrive in playoff hockey.

I think they learned vs London 2 years ago if you don't have some size & jam up front (in ur top6) you don't have a chance in the playoffs even with absurd skill.. guys gotta be willing to play in the dirty areas, take a beating etc.

For their & our sake hopefully Lammens pans out & becomes a dominant PWF one day because Delisle, Warren, Murata going right after us could look AWFUL if he doesn't haha.

it's got pros and cons right.

We'll get guys (Manza, Beamish right now!) that would've never come OHL had the rule change not have happened.

Downside we will lose guys we never would've before the change.

The biggest issue is the league gets worse if it becomes they come at 16/17 but leave at 18/19. These kids don't explode/hit their potential until they are 18/19/20.

Gonna be on the management & ownership to convince these kids, families, agents to have them stay an extra season or two to develop before college. The teams best at doing that will absolutely thrive under this rule change.

Bear in mind, both of those guys will have an ELC dangled in front of them the day after the draft. Thats almost $100,000 USD in legal money on the spot if they sign. The NCAA school will have to slip them a bag of cash under the table because, contrary to what some people are saying, Canadians are ineligible to earn NIL money at US schools.

Also, if either decide to go to the NCAA, they will be ineligible to partake in any prospect tournaments, attend NHL training camp or play in any pre-season games.

These things these players would have to voluntarily miss out on, which is odd because I’m pretty sure they’re the reasons why these players chose CHL over the NCAA in the first place.

You are right though that there needs to be some preventative measures taken by the CHL to really put a plug on this, and I believe they are. Apparently the CHL is working with the NHL to rework the CHL-AHL agreement. It would allow some players to play a portion of the season in AHL before returning to their CHL team to finish the season there.

There was a report in another sport, I believe football, that NIL was not allowed for foreign born athletes, just American born athletes. I cannot reference the article but maybe someone with connections can check if this is correct.

They’re ineligible to earn NIL while in America, take a look at Edey, schedule one preseason game in Canada and they can give you all the NIL they want.

From a parent of an ohler, “misa has an offer of 1.4 from Boston for next year”

Would probably be paid out in an exhibition played in eastern Canada

You can just say they’re going to circumvent the law

These top end athletes work with tax advisors, lawyers, agents and can get pretty creative now in terms of capitalizing on NIL despite the F1 visa restrictions.

For other US college sports, some US college boosters have essentially setup NIL funds that exist as non-US entities (in Canada for example) in order for non-US citizens to benefit in their home country.

While it isn't as straight-forward as if you were an American citizen, I'd be willing to bet F1 visa restrictions on non-US student athletes are not going to be a major blocker for those that have the talent.

Brock otten did his mock draft yesterday, man if Delisle is still there at 4 you take him, he plays physical and a hard hitter, he has a lot more skill than Lammens.

I'm with yah. Doesn't sound like the team is though.

Delisle, Warren, Murata going right after us has insane potential to make Seca & the Sting look VERY VERY bad lol.

Also has a chance to make them look like geniuses.

With Sarnia's history I think we know which way it'll go lol

I just think it’s dumb , if you want a big physical player that puts up 50-70 points you can get that in a trade. Delisle will most likely put up alot better offensive numbers he will be good defensively and he still brings decent size and physicality

Hope will be he's more than that especially paired with Edwards or Di Iorio.

Definitely taking a risk though. Certainly wish we had a more offensively minded/creative coach to maximize his and everyone else's offensive ceiling.

just curious... is there a live stream of the draft... or is it just a name will pop up on the OHL Draft site??
Actually just realizing it's supposed to be on TV this yr. Same channel as Sting games (Cogeco/yourtv)

Same with Saturday from 9-1!
