Sarnia Sting 2024 25 Season Thread Part Iii

I’m sure it’s old news.. but here ya go

If the sting are taking Lammens they better be damn sure he can play and produce, he’s not even projected in the top 10 on some final lists. Sting would look very dumb taking a guy at 4 and have him being a bust when they knew there was several better options on the table.

Well that first statement couldn't scream Lammens more lol. They are absolutely taking him.

Mixed feelings on what else he's saying. Certainly seems like they plan on taking multiple swings on Americans.

While I get what he's saying & im okay on them taking a few swings they can't go gung-ho with it. We just talked about how huge of a draft it is to support Di Iorio and Edwards. If they use multiple picks in the top 5-6 rounds on Flyers that don't come that'll kill the draft for them no matter how round 1/2 go.

Once again mentions the USHL/college commits as a way to improve the team so very clear they have a kid or two lined up from a prior class or maybe a free agent like O'Brien.

Also mentioned wanting to trade a pick or two from this draft for a future one. I'm hoping it isn't one of their 2nds. Could really fill some holes in the system with those.

The whole thing screams lammens but that’s good for you guys. Fans will love him I’m sure if he plays like how Bennett does in the NHL right now. Other teams fans… not so much lol.

Is this a guy that you take 4th overall tho? I don't think Buzz are a small team by any means. If they do take Lammens they're going to be passing on a guy with more skill. Someone compared him to Sam Bennett and im not sure I like that type of guy at such a high pick. Those character, high motor physical guys are usually taken later because they need time to progress ... but as someone else mentioned awhile back Sarnia's 2-6 round drafting has been poor. If Warren or Delisle are there and we pass on them for Lammens I think that's a huge mistake... You don't go off the board at pick 4 I don't care lol.... He didn't score a goal in the OHL cup and had 3 assists in 4 games. I don't know. I could be totally wrong but I would hate if we passed on Warren/Delisle because Letang wants a grinder.

Depends if he’s the sam bennett in junior or the Sam Bennett in the NHL. Sam Bennett in junior was high pace, physical player, but also put up real good numbers. Sam Bennett in the NHL has been a 2nd/3rd liner that’s physical and aggressive but always steps up his game for playoffs. If we draft him at 4 and we get the OHL sam Bennett then it’s a great pick. But I get what you are saying you can draft someone with more skill, and if you wanted to bring in a bigger physical player that can produce and play up and down your top 3 lines that wouldn’t cost much in a trade. Compared a top line elite scorer like konecny.

I have a feeling they have 1 or 2 Americans they know will come.

With the sale of the team taking place, does that affect who they take in the draft? do you think that the new owner(s) have chimed in and told seca and co who to take in the first. I feel like that would be a conversation that has taken place or am I wrong?
Also, picking lammens at #4 couldnt be worse than taking Cody musselman at 16 in 04 could it? lol

I also didn’t realize you could draft older players now, that could be something to keep an eye on aswell. But ya the sting should use the 4th overall for the best player available, use the second and third fourth fifth rounds to get bigger and meaner. Bring a big physical American over. Bring a zacha or leufvenius type forward over.

I would imagine they are in the conversation but I don’t think they would say you have to pick this kid not that one.

I started out pretty upset about Lammens being the pick but ill say ive come around to it. I'd still prefer to go Warren or Delisle, but Lammens should be a rather good player & effect the game in multiple ways.

Everyone compares him to the Tkachuk brothers/Bennett. Those aint bad guys to be compared too haha. We've seen how much those guys standout in games that matter. It's also been speculated teams are way higher on him than these online scouts while team are much lower on Warren & Murata than these lists.

He's big, he's strong, he's a strong skater, he's got skills, and he's very physical. A lot to like. He also played on a far less skilled team than the other top guys (outside McGregor who's going 1) & still put up 36 points in 26 games. From what ive read he went head to head with Warren a few times throughout the yr & he took it to him.

I'm not sure about his finishing ability, but he's a legit passer. I was really impressed in the games I was able to find of his with his vision, anticipation.

Points wise his ceiling isn't on of Warren's id say, but if he becomes the player they hope he'd be a dominant power forward who absolutely thrives in playoff hockey. Which does fit what this team needs to go with Edwards, Di Iorio, Brown, Karimov, Manza, Kostuch, etc..

As I said if I were Seca I'm taking Warren or Delisle (even tho he might be playing games) & taking the more sure fire bet to be a star, but I see why they are going this way. He could be a dominant player & he could fit nicely beside our hopefully superstar players. Also be nice to have one of those guys who everyone else hates, but we love. Been a long time since we've had a guy like that

yah if you can get OHL Bennett where he put up 91 pts in 57 games in year 2 then yah man sign me up for that...

I'm completely out of the loop when it comes to prospects so ill pass judgement. I would love a LDN type team where they can score a bunch and then do some dirty gritty stuff. Lol maybe Lammers would be a good guy for us. I always lean to taking the best player available ... but if Lammers can be a tkachuk/Bennett type player then yah... take him... but that's what makes the draft so intriguing is we don't really know. Sometimes the skill guy never brings it to the next level and if they don't bring the skill they don't bring anything else.

NHL Sam Bennett aka a guy all 32 teams want on their team, steps it up in the playoffs and can still score goals

I don't disagree at all but there's a difference between taking him on the team and using a 4th overall pick to take him... Bennett has for sure found a second wind in Florida and is valuable for them but I don't think his trade value is really high.

Heres 2 reports on him.

2nd one is from PDA evaluations who's a new scouting website run by a Mckeens scout (NHL draft) who works as a recruiter for St Andrews college & works for Fort Erie in the GOJHL. Not sure who else is on the staff tho.

They have him ranked 1 ahead of Wycisk & 1 behind Delisle.

I’m a huge Bennett fan believe me I love that guy and his game! I was just comparing his offensive production from OHL to the NHL. He was drafted high in the NHL draft to be a first line player and that didn’t happen still a very good player and I agree every team would gladly take him.

just curious... is there a live stream of the draft... or is it just a name will pop up on the OHL Draft site??

Oh yeah but flames never gave him much of a chance though with Monahan, Tkachuk, lindholm and Gaudreau. He wouldn’t be the player he is if he stayed in Calgary. He adapted to the role Florida laid out from him.

Actually a funny guy to compare OHL and nhl numbers is a former front- sean avery look at his stats in the OHL then we all know the pest he was in the NHL

I’m a flames fan, Bennett had a lot of chances on Gaudreau and monahan’s line and on the powerplay and every time they put him there he just couldn’t get anything going. Then in the playoffs he just turned into the player they thought they drafted and you would have thought and hoped he would carry it into the next season and he wouldn’t. I honestly think it was playing in a hockey market, everytime he was interviewed after the game he always seemed nervous like a shy kid doing a speech infront of the class. Then he went to a non hockey market and starts playing much better. I think it was the non hockey market/not as much pressure factor and maybe the system and players in Florida benefited him more.

Lammans is sam Bennett today. Not a front line player but a unicorn who if he’s your 3/4th best forward and plays like a heavy promise with heavy sskill, you love him. I would take him ahead of Murata all day, I would take Deslile but I get what Sarnia is trying to do assuming unit ends up being hammers.

It’s mimicking Florida a bit with Barkov and Bennett down the middle with DiLorio and lammers. lammers will be a point a game guy at 19 and most online twitter scouts who want soft skill will hate the pick, he’s probably a 3rd round pick on those lists because he’s not 5’7 and doesn’t dangle pilons in Practice as well, but he’s so hard and physical and those player types are so hard to find
