Sarnia Sting 2024 25 Season Thread Part Iii

McGregor, Warren, wysick, Murata, Delise seem like the top group, Barch, Chitaroni, Artaugh, Edgar seem like the next group of forwards. Not much separation between any of those forwards and there are abunch of other forwards that are in the mix, and I’m sure Americans will get picked in the first round too. I imagine McGregor and Warren go in the top 3 hopefully Wysick falls to us. If not I’d probably want Murata, barch or Edgar. Murata is 6’0 the other two are 5’10 I would assume all will be 6’0 and above when they are 16/17. Kane barch favourite player is Matthew Tkachuk and I guess he plays just like him, bit of a pest, gets under the opponents skin, he’s more of a passer and reliable in his own zone. Physical and a good skater with speed, and has a good shot but needs to use it more.
Ryerson Edgar, is a vey good skater with elite talent, responsible in all three zones, competes hard, does the little things right. Needs to put on weight and strength.
Dont know much about Murata yet but I know he’s been ranked high all year most rankings had him top 5 even as high a #1.

I've heard some rumblings Sarnia really likes Max Delisle. Not sure if he'll make it to 4, but if he does certainly wouldn't be mad at adding him.

Only listed at 5'11" but he looks a lot bigger than that to me. Powerful skater & player. Elite effort level, physical, strong on the puck. Read a scouting report that said nobody wins more battles than him. Has legit skill too + a heavy wrister.

Couldn't find a ton of video on him but put together what I could. #90. Couple goals & couple assists then a couple near chances off great plays + 3 big hits.

He's best suited at C which sucks in a way because we are loaded there, but if Beamish does leave after 25-26 he'd immediately step in to fill the void (hopefully) & still give us an elite 1-2-3 C punch.

If Beamish stays would create a dilemma and someone would have to move to wing full time. But rather have that problem than having no Cs haha.

Definitely a good physical player that plays the game right at both ends of the ice. I could be wrong but I don’t think he will put up high numbers at the next level. I personally think he tops out at 60-70 points as a 18/19 year old. But definitely a physical forward that’s a two way player, could be a good power forward playing along side edwards or Di Iorio. Definitely someone you can use in playoffs, I believe I read somewhere that he is similar to Cole Beaudoin might have read that on here and I think that is spot on. Good player but do you use a 4th overall on someone like that? Idk I feel like that’s someone you could find in the 2nd or 3 rounds or someone you could trade for that wouldn’t cost you a kings ransom. I’m starting to like that Kane Barch fast, skilled, pass first/playmaker, plays wings, physical and a pest. Basically the better skating Matthew Tkachuk. He will probably be close to Matthews size when he’s done growing.

I think you could be underselling him just a touch. His playmaking and hands are a lot better than Beaudoins who has always lacked skill.

I could see him being a pretty dominant power forward with his combo of size, powerful skating, soft hands & physical play.

Could be a nice fit with our finesse/skill of Edwards Di Iorio Brown Kostuch* Manza.

Ya I agree I think he could be aswell, is he’s able/willing to play the wing or one of our guys is willing to move to the wing, Barch will provide that physical play aswell.

Be interesting to see how they'd do it. I really do think Di Iorio Edwards Beamish should stay at C. They all play better there & fit the position great. Be such a weapon to roll those 3 out down the middle.

Maybe Delisle can play wing & take FO on his strong side if they get him. Always good to have two C on a line especially with how often guys get kicked out in the OHL lol.

I like barch a lot too. Unfortunately ohl4life mentioned today he is going usndtp route.

Hopefully we maybe steal him later on & if we hire his dad he comes. Be huge if that happened.

Ya that’s surprising, I know in his OHL prospect video he said at the end he loves going to knights games and wants to follow in his fathers footsteps of playing there. I know he’s at USNDTP camp I don’t think he’s commited yet. Could be going to camp and saying he’s going that route in hopes he falls to London.

Any rumours on players only wanting to / not wanting to play for certain teams or possible games being played to go to a certain team?

I haven’t heard anything yet, I don’t think it will happen as much unless the player is going to play for USNDTP. The CHL will be a very attractive league for 16,17 year olds whether they are American or Canadian, the best 16,17 year olds will be in the CHL and will either leave for NCAA or stay in the CHL when they hit 18. So if they are a top prospect they will definitely want to play in the CHL for their development. As opposed to to go to USHL or Tier 2 junior A. CHL will get more elite, with these new rules. So I think teams are more likely to call player’s bluffs.

Doesn't seem like it yet. But we also didn't catch wind of Wassilyn and Fitzgerald playing games until literally days before the draft last yr.

I'd imagine with the new NCAA rule change there's gonna be less of it.

It'll be interesting to see how Seca phrases things about the American kids they do take in rounds 5-12.

I haven't seen any rumours of that. The notable rumours that I've seen lately are that Kane Barch is headed to the USNDTP and Jaakko Wycisk was headed the USHL/NCAA route before the rule change. He's now going to the OHL with the possibility of him going to the NCAA after being drafted into the NHL

I hadn't seen that about Wycisk. Makes me a bit more hesitant to draft him at #4 if he would prefer leaving after 2 seasons..

I'm all for taking swings but a top 5 pick needs to be a staple/franchise piece IMO.

Be gone before he even becomes a top of the lineup player for the team he goes too.

Not sure I'd risk a top 4 on a USA player. Just have different mindset as to which league is best for development. A US player will choose USNDP every time over CHL. Think CHL will quickly become a 16-19 year old league and any team caught thinking OAs will 100% stay are going to be stuck with head in sand. 20 year old player will not be guarentee to stay some will go to NCAA. This will force Development in CHL to improve.

I wouldn’t be too worried about that, if he’s a top 5 pick into the NHL or if he’s a mid to late first round pick that has a monster year like Whatt Johnson he could be gone to the NHL after two or three years (very rare). Who knows what the future holds and none of these players are going to be a lock at staying after two years, any of them can change their mind and decide to go or not to go to NCAA. If he’s on the first line having good personal production and improving each year, and the team is doing well and possibly a contender why would he bother leaving. Who knows what the future holds hold, take the best player available.

Also a surprising thing to say because his Dad had a suite at the Hive for the past few seasons, I saw 09HPL and Axis kids there all the time.
Change all of the eligibility rules you want, hard to compete with the history, pedigree, track record, and 9000 fans every home game that the Knights have. Awfully appealing organization if you have your eyes on the pros.... and that's why we all hate them.

I think he will be OHL bound personally

Well, Flint, Soo go down in 5, Owen Sound in 4.

Cant say we missed out on much. Maybe in the coming years those players speak of how playing LDN WSR KIT helped them learn as they eliminate us in the playoffs, haha.

With how Sarnia was playing the game would've been far more lopsided than they were, especially LDN as OS hung in there so I remain happy we missed.

Hopefully nab a great player at 4 next Friday to bolster our already strong U17 group.

Sarnia locals-
Johnny McLaughlin (Lambton sting)
Matthew Henderson D (Huron Perth Lakers)
Dante D’andrea D (Huron Perth Lakers)

They should all be drafted between rounds 2-6.

Whoever at 4
Reznik at 26
Whoever at 42

Then getting one of them in RDs 4or5 would be nice. If Barch is still available come RD5 due to his potential usndtp stuff maybe take him with one of our two 5ths. See if they do hire his dad if that sways him or if they can convince him like they did Edwards.

Henderson could very well be in the 42 range, I would think he will go in late 2nd early 3rd. McLaughlin was projected as a mid first rounder, but he was hurt most of the year so now they have him in the 3rd of 4th, could maybe see someone taking him in the 2nd round because of his potential, he had two points in 1 game with strathroy rockets.
