Sarnia Sting 2024-25 Season Thread, Part III

pretty good win for the Buzz.... Karimov was really good from what I saw ... I feel a bit of a shift towards playing the younger guys more... maybe Letang skimmed our page lol.

Best start to finish effort in weeks. Obviously GUE is a rebuilding team, but got the early lead & controlled the game throughout.

Every line stepped up & that's great to see.

Beamish first OHL hatty! Karimov 2A, one of which was a beauty & Brown was everywhere & got 1A.

Vet line finally pots a goal & it came fight after GUE got within one which totally deflated them.

Rookie line got us the early lead with a snipe by Di Iorio who later rang the bar on a sweet rush. Edwards had a couple great looks too. It is so fun watching these 2 often be 2 of the best guys on the ice despite being 16.

Fischer-Hurt were awesome. completely shutdown GUE top line.
Young-Barr was really good imo. Barr early fight then a great assist on Beamish' 1st.
O'Brien-Bridgewater was solid.

Surzycia 34/35 was excellent. A lot of easier saves, but he made a handful of beauties when the game was close. His strongest start in a bit.

FLT, OS, SSM, GUE all lose with us winning. For the playoff hopes tonight was perfect.

Funny how quick things can swing either direction. Win tomorrow @ FLT & they are within 3 of 6th with a game in hand. See what they got in them!

Had to go wash my eyes out seeing a U17 PP unit starting a PP .. Thought it couldn't be... Haha. Look what happened, too! Di Iorio rips one top shelf.

Certainly feels like as of late they are playing them more & thank god for it. Should've been the move weeks, months ago.

They not only are the future they often are the best performing players for us.

And they're fun to watch too ... with all due respect to the older guys they play a super boring style of play.... dump and chase... cycle.. lay the body... go hard to the net... which is all fine but it gets boring.... especially from the 'top' line and power play.... Our younger guys have a dash of flash and skill.. touch passes.... one on one skill.. some dangles.. patient with the puck always looking to make a play... which is more entertaining and frankly what the OHL is.... and which is why I think Letang isnt the right coach.

Letang turns all players to defensive low scoring defensive responsible players give him time..
Problem is the defensive zone responsibility and Defense doesn't move puck quick enough while using speed and stretching out opponents.
Always been that style just isnt a coach at this level or higher. Especially not HC

I agree, the toughest thing to teach in hockey is playing defensive hockey, and even worse is playing it with intensity. Players I have got to know at being first on the puck at both ends and, that being second in the d-zone retrieving is spending all your energy chasing, it also means changing because there is no energy left for the attack by the time they have control.
 
Huge game today, sting need to show they are a playoff team and can win when it matters. This will be a playoff type game, Letang needs to show he can be a mediocre coach and not just a garbage coach.

Surzycia starts which i don't get figured Maillet would get tonight and Surzycia gets LDN. Also Moses is out looks like Omeri or Chamberlain will draw in. Same lines as last night.

Chamberlain draws in for Simpson who has a Jr. B game tonight, meaning he can't play. I like Surzycia starting. We know that the Sting not aren't winning tomorrow so try to get the win against a worse Flint team tonight.

What freaking GARBAGE from Alan Letang tonight.

One the team looks totally unprepared, flat, overwhelmed in a huge game.

Two they come out in the 2nd totally dead & he doesn't change goalies or call a timeout & now he's leaving Surzycia in to be slaughtered.

Absolute garbage coaching.

Horrible effort tonight.haven't seen Barr and young Play worse than are tonight. The forcheck is weak looks like Letang didn't even plan for this game. Coming off win in guelph to this effort has all indications Letang didn't prepare the boys. Or the playoff pace just little out of reach for a whole bunch of buzz players.
 
Not sure why letang thinks he can carry over all his ti.eouts or something
All about regrouping in the 2nd period when there is clear mome tum going which led to 4 goals in second. Simple timeout do some coaching foe christ sake

It's complete idiocy that he didn't use his timeout tonight. Seriously. Im sure ive nitpicked some stuff with him that's unnecessary, but what coach doesn't use his time out when your team is playing THAT bad & has allowed 3 quick ones, 1 not counting. Then minutes later a 4th.

Especially with such a young team. Like what the hell is he thinking. Team takes after their coach & he showed 0 emotion, urgency or care & that's how they played all night outside Moses.
 
He just isn't a smart OHL coach, maybe a JrB coach maybe! Pisses me off something simple as timeout then goes way in games like this whi young team, Well 7 games left still not lock in playoffs still hoping for not making it. Lottery will go way further in 2 years with this crew and new staff. Matsos should have called on experience and made letang use a timeout.

Letang must have been told just to finish the season, he’s completely checked out. Doesn’t care at all.

More I sit on tonights game the more it pisses me off & baffles me. That was a top 5 worst game of the season adding it all together.

2 wins in a row. Down 5 points of FLT. 3 up on SSM/OS.

If Sarnia wins that game they are pretty much in barring an epic collapse. They'd be within 3 points of Flint with another meeting on the way in Sarnia.

It's a team all season they've played incredibly tight against. Every game (8 including pre season) has been a 1 goal game except the last one, which was tied/3-2 until very late. So we know they are pretty evenly matched.

Flint was missing multiple big players & had lost b2b games. They certainly didn't play that great of a game.

Sarnia straight up mailed it in. No physicality outside Moses. Nobody battling out front to create some chaos around the net. Nobody on D being physical to deny screens or backdoor plays.

The team legitimately looked asleep to start the 2nd. FLT looked like the 04-05 Knights with how bad we were playing. Add in Letang's cluelessness on the bench with not using his TO or switching goalies & that was embarrassing. Truly.

If they play like that vs LDN they'll lose by 10+ goals.
