Sarnia Sting 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part II

Pretty disappointing loss ..... at home vs the worst team in the league. Buzz need to find some consistency... look great for a bit then look absolutely brutal for a bit.... I honestly don't think Brown touched the puck tonight. I didn't hear his name mentioned once.... Just a brutal game.
This was the Pete's third game in three nights.

They needed to push real hard in the first 2 periods to sniff out the life out of them, get them tired going into third, and that didn't happen

Disagree Edward's was only ok tonight, should never shoot in shootout. Not in score or lose situation.
Have a question for StingUpdates.
Who has scored most shootout goals this year? That's the guy I'm picking for our 3rd shooter tonight NOT Karimov and then not Edward's. I'm going with stats on goals in shootouts not a hunch with Karimob sitting on bench last 12 mins of 3rd and then all OT then hey Letang feels a hunch... lol good one Letang.

Buzz just don't have any guys capable of doing that at the moment. Brown ain't it and our veteran players have little to no skill.... another year of getting absolutely zero from our overage players.... Brown has disappointed me this year... outside of like a good 10-12 game stretch he's been mostly invisible the entire year. Edwards and Di Lorio have both looked better than him. Browns lucky this year isn't his draft year because he absolutely would not be taken early. He's got 13 goals in 50 games which is virtually the same as his rookie year. I expected more but hopefully next year he takes a step up.

I noticed this too.... Letang absolutely hates Karimov, staples him to the bench for the majority of the game ..... then expects Karimov to go out and bury a shootout goal...I'd love to know what goes on in Letangs head sometimes. I'm so over Letang at this point I don't even like talking about him. I was over him years ago.... Lelangs coaching style reminds me of that Alanis Morissette song ... It's like 10,000 spoons when all you need is a knife. Guy just needs to get out of his own way.

I gotta disagree with that. Brown has been PPG since the first week of December. Also +17 in that time.

He's often been there best F the last 20-25 games. IMO anyways.

Yah Karimov to me has been really good the last 2 weeks and he's back to only playing 10-12 minutes. Not on PP. Not out in OT. Just ridiculously bad management of a skilled player.

I liked Edwards. Drove the net hard multiple times. Had a couple good looks. Battled hard. Does need to pass more. I'm fine with him in shootout, but not over Wainwright who's been better at them.

No Beamish in OT or SO is crazy too. He's your #1 C.... I want Bridgewater in OT. Good passer. Elite skater. It's made for D like him. Instead it's only 5 & 13 who by minute 2or3 are exhausted.

Not a shock they've pissed away a ton of points in OT/SO with Letang as coach. Even with Voit Pastujov Burke LDBB Kyrou we looked crap at OT. Looks like they barely practice it. It's just give it to Wainwright Doucette or Fischer and pray they burn by the other team

Fair enough to disagree on Brown..and for sure he's been better the last 20 games.. but like I've watched at least the last 4 games and didn't hear or see much from him... Again, it's the consistency thing. He's been good for a 20 game stretch but they have played 50 games lol so like whats he been doing those other 30 or so... not a lot... thats a big chunk of the season where he's done nothing.... and browns a guy where if he's not scoring he's not doing a whole lot else... But again thats just my opinion too so fair enough to disagree.

Definitely started horrendous. I think he's been really strong in DEC/JAN and into Feb, but yah, we can disagree on it. I was hoping for a 60-70 PT yr and that isn't coming so I see why others would be down/lower on him than I.

I've been more disappointed with their vets as of late. Filak, Doucette, Wainwright gotta do a bit more. Haven't been bad, but they are our leaders up front. Game like this vs a young, rebuilding team they should be some of the best guys on the ice. Not our rookies.

All 3 haven't upped their production from last yr much at all & that's a bummer as you hoped all 3 would especially Wainwright.

Yeah our vets have been bad for sure. I never expected much from Filak but I expected way more from Wainwright and Doucette. I thought both could hover close to a ppg but they both kinda fell flat. If you look at the buzz' goal stats its pretty disappointing. Not one guy with 20 goals. Our leading scorer is Edwards and doucette with 17 then a bunch of guys in the low-teens.... and thats after 50 games now. That just won't cut it. Scoring goals hasn't been Sarnia's forte in the Letang era.

Usually even when im unhappy with Letang I come to agree with his sentiments in the post-game interview, but good god not tonight. He said he's happy & thought they played a good game... Like what??

He even said the 2nd was a back & forth period which is insane when they got dominated by the worst team in the league that period. Said it played like a playoff team which once again is absurd when the other team sits last.

Pretty shocked that's his view on the game. Maybe he's just saying it because he doesn't wanna make them feel bad after a bad weekend, but figured he'd have some semblance of anger or disappointment in having such a dreadful weekend when they are in a very tight race & wanna push for 5th..

Singled out Brown's penalty as a bad one, which it was, but he's gotta hold his captain accountable too. Fischer cant be taking all these post-whistle penalties. He's too important to be in the box all the time. In general he's gotta tell the guys to settle down. You don't need to get the other team/players back every time they give you a whack or take a shot at Di Iorio/Edwards. Have been shooting themselves in the foot constantly with the retaliation crap as of late.

Wainwright is frustrating because he gets the looks. He gets a breakaway, or two a game it feels like & he so rarely finishes. It isn't Vilmanis bad, but his accuracy is all over the place some nights. Still brings a lot in different areas, but they need more from him in games like tonights.

Doucette is a disappointing. Not every guy takes that big OA jump, but you wanna see some sorta step forward & he hasn't.

Last year 0.33 goals a game.
This year 0.36 goals a game.
Last yr 0.67 PPG
this yr 0.63 PPG

Pretty much having an identical yr, which isn't bad, but it is a bit of a letdown, especially when the team has way more talent around him than last yr. I feel since his suspension he's been really underwhelming as well.

Great thing is our young guys have been our best guys lately which bodes well for the coming years, but for trying to climb the standings it doesn't help

I’m thinking Legwand is the head coach next season, he has OHL experience in coaching and head coach experience with a top notch AAA program the last few years. I don’t get what people see in wainwright or Doucette, ya they are fast and have decent shots but that’s about it, offensive hockey IQ isn’t great and their stick handling/play making is average at best. I think they both get talked up too much personally.

Letang (&Seca) got three year extensions after the playoff run. I could see Legwand letting Letang finish that contract which would end after next season. See how he does when expectations will be a bit higher & the team isn't one of the youngest in the league.

I'd be fine with him being coach as well, but not if he's doing it just to be his sons coach. That rarely goes well at this level. Leads to turmoil in the room which is unfair to the other plays & especially the coaches son.

Yah at times I'm sure we've expected to much, but I think we mostly were just hoping for that natural jump you see a lot in this league when guys get to 19 & 20. Unfortunately both have stayed on the exact same pace. Solid players, but didn't jump to being consistently impactful & that hurts in games like tonight when you need someone to make a big play.

Idk he failed to win when he had the best roster in the league, why do we put our trust in him to get the job done this time?

Nice to see Ryder Simpson (4th rounder) is having a really strong season in the GOJHL for Cambridge.

12 Goals, 6 Assists in 19 games. 0.95 PPG is 4th among rookies.

Unfortunately doesn't have more games played because the injury he got in camp here + some suspensions, but nice to see him showing a scoring touch as he's known more for being a power forward, physical guy.

Kale Osipenko (7th round) is 12-6-2 with a 0.910 sv% & 2.83 GAA. Interesting to note he was drafted at 5'7", 125 & is now listed at 5'10", 149. Still small, but that's a decent jump already. Be great if by camp he added a little more size.
